Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Hilton Honors “Your upcoming stay” standard email

has anyone noticed this in their previous bookings?

We are stopping at an All-inclusive resort next week, 2 adults and 1 child, booked as a reward booking. The booking confirmations also shows 2 + 1, both on the website and the email at the time of booking. I specifically remember the points redemption figure went up when adding 1 child, as opposed to just having 2 adults. I have it in the back of my mind that it increased around 15,000 per night when adding a child.

Yesterday I’ve received the “Your upcoming stay” email and a big yellow box is in there which says –

“This is an All-Inclusive Resort. Children under 2 stay and eat free; ages 3 – 12 incur an additional charge of $95.00/night/child (paid at check-in); ages 13 and older will be charged an adult rate. Guests 13 and older should be registered as adults. Otherwise, an additional adult rate will be added to your account at check-in. Hilton Honors redemptions will incur the same charges as indicated above.”

I’m really hoping this is just a standard email being thrown out, as I really don’t want to be battling with hotel reception when I’ve already paid for a child.

If you have booked for the correct number of people then you will be fine. That is a standard warning for the many people, especially Americans, who like to cram in as many kids into hotel rooms as they can. There are lots of threads on the forums of people discussing that practice, with the usual advice for regular hotels being to not tell the hotel (which always sounds a bit dodgy to me).

Clearly this is more of an issue at an all inclusive where there is a real cost in terms of feeding everyone that is staying, so they publish those warnings all over the place (and monitor numbers closely through wrist bands and the like) to encourage booking for the right number of guests up front.

This is an all-inclusive so you have to book the correct number of guests.

If it was a regular hotel without a meal plan you could benefit from 2nd guest stays free (as well as kids stay free, if offered) and only book for 1 adult – though if your kid is under 2 then you obviously shouldn’t put them on the booking if the points price increases.

I stayed at Hilton Dalaman last year which is an All Inclusive resort with a child on a points redemption and no extra charges were levied.
