I downgraded from Barclaycard Avios Plus to Barclaycard Avios and now have a query about my ‘Target Date’ for the Yearly spending reward. Let me lay out the timeline below:
March 22: Apply for and Receive Avios Plus
June 22: Hit £10,000 spending receive upgrade voucher
July 22: Downgrade to Avios card from Avios Plus
Looking at the app the target date (for my £20,000 spending target) is now 22/08/23 and I appear to be able to start spending towards another Upgrade voucher.
Unlike the BA Amex the target date of spending targets for the Avios Mastercard appears to change either once a spending target is hit or when one changes between the Avios Plus & Avios cards.
Does anyone know which of the two events triggered this?
In theory could one earn multiple Upgrade vouchers in a calendar year by spending £10,000 every quarter, downgrading and then upgrading to spending £10,000 the next quarter?
There are two issues with the theory (that has been previously reported) – BC doesn’t allow you freely to upgrade/downgrade so controls if and when you can. Also, the apparent ability to reset your anniversary on downgrade appears to be an an error as the terms state: “only one Cabin Upgrade Voucher can be earned in any 12-month period” so at some point they will probably address the glitch rather than offer an apparent downgrade ‘benefit’.
