Am I only the only one that has had a saga trying to get a Barclaycard Avios card? They have asked for my life history, inland revenue submissions, bank statements and pay slips. I have a 999 credit score, AMEX Platinum, never been refused a credit card, and not borrowed money part from a mortgage. I could not even register on the app, they would not recognise my passport, What a bunch of a••••••s 😡
Passport? At what stage have they asked for a passport in the app?
Many have been refused, lots and lots of threads on the subject.
It’s unclear if you have been refused, are still in the process of trying to get accepted, or if you have eventually been accepted but now can’t register the app. The passport comment has completely thrown me off the scent.

The reason BC will be asking for all this information is that they are unable to verify your identity, address and financial status via the usual automated means which could be for a number of reasons including elections made by you. The so called ‘credit score’ to which you refer is an invented number that means nothing to a credit provider. If you have lots of cards with high limits, you may get refused anyway.
My wife is low earner and she got 8k without a problem. I think they choose the people they want regardless of where they are on totem pole.

The app asks for ID and then takes a recording of you undertaking two actions.
I only have a £200 credit limit until documents I submitted have been reviewed.

Well I have had no issues in the past when opening accounts, and certainly not been asked to provide the documentation that Barclaycard request. Other financial organisations seem to be able to access the required information…
@Tony_D believe it or not you’re actually in a better situation than many others who applied. Many got rejected outright, not because of bad credit, but because they had too many open lines of credit already (lots of cards, or card with high limits Vs current salary, or both).
To get accepted, albeit with the £200 limit to start, at least means you’re off to a better start. The limit will adjust once they verify the docs, although other threads suggest they could take a while.
Re the app, I had no issues registering and don’t recall the passport stage, meaning either that I didn’t face the same upload issues as you or that I wasnt asked for it a few months ago.

Thanks SteveJ. After failing ID twice the app offers a PINsentry card reader to allow completion of registration, it is on its way…

“999” Credit Score isn’t a good score. It’s essentially a default “not much data” score.
You’ve got a very poor credit history – “not borrowed money”.
There’s clearly an exception being flagged up where the records and residency (non-UK passport?) you are supplying don’t tie up.Sounds like you are a in a difficult position. You want to be a customer more than they want you to be a customer.
999 just means if Experian provided credit cards you would be guaranteed to be accepted for all of them. Unfortunately Experian doesn’t provide credit cards so it’s a pretty meaningless number.
Credit card providers work out their own score for their individual acceptance criteria which are effectively trade secrets, but with some clues available for example what has been reported on here and other forums.
Experian does provide “scores” for some lenders but the scores seen by those lenders may not be the score you see when you sign up with Experian (or their partners such as moneysavingexpert) as a consumer.
Absolute nightmare customer service is some of the worst I have come across.
I got accepted after about a month of sending numerous bank statements and payslips and an SA302 which was a pain to get from HMRC in itself. Ended up making a complaint and eventually got accepted.
My wife’s application was a total debacle. Similar thing not accepting documents. After being passed from pillar to post, was told my wife’s income needed to be earned income (she’s a homemaker) even though it clearly says when making the application that income from a spouse is acceptable. Got so miffed arguing by this point as it had been six weeks since applying that I just cancelled. Utter shambles.

I have had numerous credit cards over the years and up until now accepted immediately. I doubt very much if there are any negatives flags against me, I believe this is a Barclaycard issue judging by the experience of others…

Agree, they use overseas call centres and I was not impressed.I have (thankfully) received the full credit limit. I hate to ask but will I be able to get a supplementary card for my wife?

Yes
+1
As our card was cancelled mid introductory period it will be interesting if Barclays are interested in retaining a potential future good customer. I fear this promo of up to 55k avios was simply too generous for Barclays to honour for so many applicants.
Well, supplementary card arrived within 3 days of ordering and I must say that the Barclaycard app is one of the better credit card apps that I have come across. Only one remaining issue, I have not received the email with the Apple offer and been sent round the houses. Finally spoke to someone who took the time and understood the issue and it has been escalated. Customer services experience has been mixed…
