Hi all, we are visiting Bangkok at the beginning of April
2 adults, 2 kids (7 and 10), for 3 nights and then we fly off to Khoa Sok (Surat Thani)
We will have 2 full days in Bangkok and I’m currently am lost where to stay in Bangkok – so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
We don’t really care about shopping malls, but would like to see the temples, and other interesting landmarks.
thanks

We did similar in November with similar aged kids – 2 bedroom suite at the Banyan Tree worked very well – Decent location, and got Club lounge access – one of the best lounges we’ve come across. Hotel has slightly dated rooms tech-wise but we coped.
For tours – def contact TourWithTong – they can tailor make any itinerary you like to hit as much/little as you want – driver and guide were both excellent.
We have stayed at the Shangri La plenty of times. We generally get a Horizon level room for the extra club type of benefits. Great hotel , super location and they have some deals on atm.
Anywhere with easy access to the BTS or the metro.
I’ve stayed in the Mandarin Oriental and the Peninsula – they are across the river from each and both nice, though the MO is definitely much better. The difference in time to get to the Peninsula was shocking though – crossing the river in a cab took 60 to 90 minutes. Stick to anywhere east of the river (on the MO side)
Thanks all, I have now booked Shangri-la and also contacted TourWithTong
I would agree that it makes sense to stay East of the river for a short stay. Bangkok traffic can be crazy, especially if it starts raining. It’s very charming staying on the river, but I too have experienced 60-90 minute taxi rides just to cover a few miles.
I would recommend taking a look at the Grand Hyatt, which is well connected to the BTS (and from there Skytrain). The suites are spacious, the pool is nice enough if you want to take it easy and children are permitted in the club lounge. For sightseeing, it’s also an easy walk to Khlong Saen Saep ferries to get into the old town, or walkable to Lumphini park.
I wouldn’t write off the shopping malls completely. I’m not into shopping either, but they are as good a place as any to eat and have rather more spectacle to them than e.g. a Westfield.

I know you have booked the ShangriLa (which looks lovely btw) but to add to the info in this thread for others we’ve just completed a great stay over Christmas at the Anantara Riverside. While on the opposite side of the river it has a regular free hotel ferry that runs right to the landing by the ShangriLa (and BTS station). There’s another ferry that goes to the IconSiam mall.
Lovely kid friendly pool resort area and the Trader Vics tiki bar would also be entertaining for children.
Good upgrades possible with GHA status (via Titanium Business Traveller offer) and we also got a chunk off via Discovery Dollars purchased in recent sale.
