Good morning all,
Hoping for a bit of advice as I am struggling to figure out where to credit by BA spend this year.
I have a BAH next week Edin-London-Miami-Lima in business(including hotel) booked before 31st of December changes so crediting according to old rules.
I have a monthly Edin-LCY economy flight (so 12 in total).
We will also book a return CE flight to Barcelona (EDIN-LON-BCN) and another long haul return flight in Business which is likely to be EDIN-LON-MAR-LIM.
Would anyone be kind enough to help me work out where to credit these to make the most of it?
I am currently BA GOLd.
If you can provide the exact cost, excluding taxes, of all the flights you haven’t yet booked then it may be possible to work it out.
Many will have the same known unknowns of course. I’m not having a dig at you, simply highlighting that in most cases it is impossible to identify in advance what will turn out to be ‘best’.
It also depends whether you are trying to maximise Avios earnings or earn status, as they may have different answers.
This is now almost impossible to calculate because of the switch from earning based on a fixed number based on the route and fare bucket to one based on part of the fare you have paid.
The days of knowing that an EDI-LHR-BCN return in club would be 160 TPs are now gone because the new TPs are so variable depending if you booked a cheap sale fare or a last minute expensive one.
For the flights you already have booked the estimated TPs should already be showing in MMB.
For those yet to be booked you need to do some dummy bookings and look in the fare breakdown for the BA fare + BA surcharges to calculate the TPs. This is then complicated because any bonus TPs aren’t included in MMB but will be when they eventually post.
And then you need to know how the different programs treat these as they are slightly different. For Iberia and Finnair you also need to convert € to € for example.
The only flights you should definitely credit to BAC is your existing BAH holiday. As for the rest as stated above what are you looking to achieve? Status or Avios earning?
The other unknown is what other airline Frequent Flyer programs you have and what status you have with them.
Also depends what airlines you will be flying and what fare class. Sounds like all OW so you are limited to QR / IB / BA or AY.
Read the dedicated thread over on FlyerTalk about alternative schemes to the old BAEC. There is a very good Google doc which summarises what each scheme offers.
Thank you all for a prompt response.
– My objective is to keep status (ideally gold). I only have status with BA and no other airline. Happy to start FF with another One World airline.
– Barcelona flights cost up at £572 per person without taxes
– Lima flights cost up at £1,335 per person without taxes. Might have to make them another holiday , this will likely increase it by £3-£4k spend.
– we tend to use BA and Iberia with occasional AA flights
