Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach redemption

  • 9 posts

    Hi folks,

Looking to go to Dubai as a family of 4 (kids aged 8 an 5) for the first time, using Marriott Bonvoy points redemption for the Westin Mina Seyahi Beach. I am a Gold member which I know won’t give lounge access.

Trying to make sure I’m taking a good deal here because no food is included at all, and whether I’m really getting good value for using points because potentially will be paying a lot more for food than I would otherwise have paid with something like a B&B or Half Board deal.

    Any opinions greatly appreciated, thanks!

How many points will you use for the redemption, and what is the cash rate on the same dates?

245k points, for a 5 night stay around the Easter period.

Using a rough 1 AED to 0.22 GBP rate off Google
Cheapest room only: 11,382 AED (£2499)
Cheapest with breakfast: 12,449 AED (£2744)

Ok, so I ignored the breakfast rate because you need to do a like for like comparison to understand the value. Since you’re Gold, unfortunately you won’t get free breakfast on a points (or cash) stay.

Using 245K points for a £2499 cash price stay gives you a value of 1.02 pence per Bonvoy point.

Rob’s target valuation is 0.5 pence per point for Bonvoy points. Therefore, you’re achieving a touch over double the average Bonvoy point value with this specific booking.

In other words, your pot of 245K Bonvoy points ‘should’ be worth £1225. But in this case you’re getting over an additional thousand pounds of value.

In short, it’s a solid deal.

As an aside, I just booked 5 nights at Grosvenor House (a favourite Dubai property here) at a pence per point ratio of 0,79 pence per point, and I’m happy with that.
