Welcome bonus glitch?

Hi, just wanted to ascertain if the welcome bonus pops up regardless if you meet the criteria or not?
I think this happened in the past where I was trying to hit a target but in the end told that it didnt apply to me, despite the website showing me the progress bar

I have enquired with them on the telephone and to be fair the agent couldnt tell me 100% but he said I last had an account in 2019 but im sure I cancelled in Feb 2022. Either way I am not arguing I just dont want to target spend on a cc card which doesn’t return a chuck back (I could target it elsewhere on a Mastercard/Visa)

However ignore the last fact, just wanted to see if it pops up for others too

Amex should be able to tell you definitively when you last cancelled your card, try calling Brighton and ask again. Sometimes you do get a counter even if you’re not eligible for a SUB, so don’t rely on it.
