Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Virgin Australia help please

  • 411 posts

Good morning, I am planning to fly ADL-DPS after the 3rd Ashes Test in December and Virgin Australia appears to be the best value. Whenever I try to sign up for their Velocity programme I receive an error message – has anyone else experienced this?
Additionally, would I have the option of using VA points for this booking?
    Many thanks.

I think you need to be an APAC resident (Aus/NZ or a handful of Pacific island nations VA serve) to join Velocity. Don’t forget you can credit to QR and earn Avios as well as any of the other VA partners (e.g. VS/SQ/AC). You should be able to use VS miles but you probably have to call.

If you’re after a direct flight I think only Jetstar fly that route at present. VA are a “mid market” carrier so you’ll get water and a cup of tea in Y but nothing else

@Adder thank you so much! This is hugely appreciated.

    No problem.

That actually reads a bit harshly on VA – which is not my experience, I find them great and often superior to QF. But in Y they are closer to an LCC, J is pretty good though. Also they don’t offer a lounge on international flights, if that’s relevant for you

@Adder have you ever used Jetstar? A quick glance at TrustPilot is an absolute horror show!

IMHO Jetstar ( aka Deathstar ) get a bad press. I’ve used them a fair bit over the years ( my OH until very recently was based in Australia ).Yes, they strictly enforce baggage limits (much the same as FR) so many of the grizzles are about this. ADL -DPS direct is just over 5 hrs and I’d much rather fly direct than zig zag back to MEL or SYD.
VA domestic used to be fantastic ( especially so when they were Virgin Blue / DJ many moons ago ) but my recent expetience of them is less so.

@Dragonlady this is most reassuring, thanks so much for posting

@pbcold used Jetstar many times but only when there’s no better option. For ALD-DPS I would definitely fly direct if possible as DragonLady suggests. No real issues with them but they do enforce carryon limits rigidly. Sometimes later flights in the day are susceptible to delays (and no UK261 equivalent in Aus sadly). With paid luggage and seat selection the experience would be perfectly fine.

@Adder, thank you I have booked – front row and luggage really did not increase the price by much and, as you say, avoiding a connection in this instance is hugely preferable. Thanks again.
