I am looking to book a flight for next year and want to ensure that I get the seats as they become available.
It is my understanding that Virgin release their reward seats 331 days in advance. I’m sure I heard somewhere that they become available at 5am UK time, but the UK call centres don’t open until 7am.
Is anyone able to shed any light on the exact times that the reward seats become available, and assuming it is before 7am what the best number is to use to try and secure the seats?
Seats do typically become available at 5am, because that’s midnight in Atlanta. This happens because VS make use of some bits of Delta’s IT systems. And, indeed, seats do become available at T-331.
You should first try to secure at virginatlantic.com, unless you know you can’t (for example, you need to use a voucher) or the route is very popular (MLE, for example).
0344 209 2722 should be open 24/7 – you don’t need a VS employee in the UK to help you complete your transaction; the US staff can help out, too. If you’re calling from the US, you’ll end up at the same place by calling 800 862 8621.
@AL is right in my experience – I got through on the 0344 number above last week after being on hold for about 10 minutes from 4.50am and bagged a couple of MLE-LHR UC tickets at T-331.
Thanks very much.
I managed to get the flights although I had to book them online as there was a long wait time and I had to leave for work. Annoyingly I couldn’t use my companion vouchers that way although I have just started another thread regarding that issue…
Does Virgin allow you to book two one-way flights (to make sure they get snagged) and then will they allow you to combine them to get the taxes back? Or does the return flight really need to be done by phone.

Both options work. If you’re using a voucher, you have until October 31st before both need to be booked at the same time (which I take to mean as in the same PNR, or at least as a linked PNR).
