Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Using the Barclays voucher on someone else?

I think I read it was possible to “gift” the upgrade voucher to someone else. Can’t seem to do this online, just wanted to check any experience doing this before I call BA and spend ages on hold. Thanks.

If it makes a difference the plan is to let someone else in the household account use it.

Hi Renee, I believe that’s ok. According to HPB articles the vouchers are transferable- if you have a household account it can only be transferred to someone from there. So worth the call

Hi, as per the article on HfP:

    “Who can use the voucher?

This is important. The voucher is semi-transferable.

Whilst the flight must be booked from the account of the person who receives the voucher, the flight can be booked for anyone. The usual restrictions apply if you are in a British Airways Executive Club Household Account – ie the flyer must be in your Household Account or on your Friends & Family list.”

Just put the passenger’s name in the field when you come to that section of the booking? I’m assuming it’s the same as booking one-way for 2 people and adding the 2nd person, which is what I did with my voucher.

I can’t even get the system to quote properly, it keeps trying to use the new BA 2 for 1 on the account instead!.

You need to make sure you select the Barclay’s voucher at the start of the process (try doing it from your account page). Then if you need to start again, you need to re-select it, otherwise the system defaults to any 241s you have. It’s really odd!

Reporting back: No amount of clicking allowed me to use the Barclays voucher on someone else online. The owner of the voucher called the Avios line and it was done very easily – this was using the upgrade voucher on a return ticket for someone else in the Avios household where the person who earnt it was not travelling at all.
