Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Using Barclays upgrade voucher on return leg only

  • 5 posts

Hi, does anyone know if it’s possible to use the Barclays voucher to upgrade only the return leg? I have economy reward seats booked to Seattle next July and just tried to book a business return but it won’t let me as it originates outside the UK. Whilst I sit in the phone queue, do you know if they’ll let me add a return to the booking and apply the voucher to the returns only?

I doubt very much this would be possible due to the Ts and Cs, even if an agent could manually override it. Have you now managed to speak to someone about it? Otherwise, could you cancel and rebook if there’s availability?
Don’t book the return online as you’ll be charged a massive amount of BA surcharges.

The terms – “cabin Upgrade Vouchers can only be used for British Airways flight-only itineraries with departures from the United Kingdom …” don’t seem specifically to preclude this, but not sure how they apply it in practice. While it is clear one couldn’t use the voucher on a standalone one way booking back to the UK, applying the voucher to a return leg might in theory be OK.

Thanks for your replies. BA refused to apply the vouchers to the return leg only. We had to cancel our booking and rebook the outbound flights using the voucher (upgrading 2 one-way flights from the Uk). Upside is we’re now flying business, downside is I’m poorer!

How did the surcharges work out, did you re-book for the return journey as well?
