Using Avios and Companion Voucher

Hey all,

Couple of newbie Avios questions:

1. What free tools do you use to search for availability? The BA website has to be one of the worst ever made—timeouts, glitches, and no easy way to check availability. Surely there’s a better way?
2. I’ve got two Amex BA Companion Vouchers—one on my account, one on my wife’s. We’re both in a household account. Do I need to book two tickets from my account (with me as a traveler) and two from hers (with her as a traveler), or is there a better way to use them together?

Also, any tips on maximizing Avios and vouchers would be much appreciated!

Assuming it’s just going to be the the two of you travelling then you can use this for 2 trips

Trip 1 – using your voucher with her as your companion on a return trip somewhere,

Trip 2 – using her voucher with you as her companion on another return trip somewhere.

If you are taking other people with you the you’d use it as follows

Booking 1 – using your voucher with you as the lead and Person 1 as the companion.

Booking 2 – being her voucher with her as the lead and Person 2 as the companion.

Even in a HHA the vouchers belong to the person who earned them and they stay in their accounts and they have to be on the booking made from their account. Unlike the avios which are shared between the two of you.
