Hi All
So in January, my wife and I used a 241 voucher for a trip to South America. It involved Iberia and BA on an open jaw, so I had to phone up multiple times and get them to sort it.
Now, in April, that same voucher is still showing in my account. It expires in July 2025. There’s another voucher in my account which expires March 2026.
I’m wondering if, because it was booked over the phone, the call centre forgot to apply the voucher correctly?
My wife is away with work until September, and I only have about 20k Avios. Is there any risk with me trying to book a solo Business class trip to Europe this June, using the 241 voucher which I thought had expired? I was gonna go anyway on Economy Cash.
It seems like a low risk thing – but I don’t want BA to suddenly use my 2026 voucher for this trip, which is more important for a future trip with my wife. Or for me to somehow have it cancelled for breaking the rules etc.
Thanks!
I’ve had 3 used 241 vouchers reamin in my account in the past, they seem to remain in the account whenever I have called up and made a change to the booking. I eventually called CS and asked about it, it’s some kind of a bug and eventually a back office team will manually review and remove it. All 3 of mine were removed last year.
I wouldn’t chance using it again if you’ve already used it once, they will likely pick it up eventually and may/ may not remove your other voucher in lieu.
Re “Is there any risk… ”
No, absolutely none at all. You go for it.
@creativekeyboard2 – the bottom line here is that the voucher isn’t yours to use any longer. You have used it and are aware that you have used it such that it is no longer valid. The fact that BA has accidentally failed to take the voucher doesn’t change the underlying issue.
You aren’t permitted to use it any more than you could spend money accidentally credited to your bank account. Of course, you can try using it and the system may well allow you to travel and nothing further happens or BA might spot the issue, but getting away with it, or the risks and/or consequences are entirely different issues.
If I book something which I know I’m not entitled to, is there any risk that it might get cancelled?
Does the question really need answering? Of course there’s a risk , no one can sensibly comment on the probability.
The consequences could be dire , closure of BA account, allowed under T&Cs
