Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Upgrading cash flights with VS miles

  • 6 posts

I have Economy Delight flights paid for wholly with cash and am looking to upgrade to Premium, if/when availability in that cabin allows. We are 6 months out from the flight dates.

    a couple of questions:

    – Is it possible to upgrade by sector? So if Premium only available now on OB, can you upgrade that and perhaps upgrade the IB at a later date?

    – My husband and I are travelling. He doesn’t have enough miles for the upgrade but I do for both of us. We are only Red level members so we can’t have a Household Account. Will I be able to use my miles for upgrade for both of us?

    Thank you for any advice

    (1) Yes. If you use a voucher, then they’ll keep the other half of the voucher on account. Pricing for miles only is on the website and is return pricing, so simply half it. Taxes will be a little over fifty per cent one way versus return.

    (2) Yes. You have a variety of options. If you have enough miles and want to do it all, then you can do that. Or, you can have him transfer or gift them to you (one way incurs a small fee – forgotten which) via the website.
