Forums Payment cards American Express Upgrade Gold Biz Amex to Plat Biz

  • 10 posts

I was offered 20k for spending 4k to upgrade from gold biz to plat biz and took up the offer because I had a big spend coming up anyway.

I’ve made the spend beginning of the month and cannot justify keeping the card right now and have been told to wait 90 days for the points and if I cancel the card, I won’t get the points.

Has anyone been able to speed up the process of getting the points? I’ve tried calling a few times and they keep saying you have to wait 90 days. I really can’t justify the £150 fee for 3 months wait.

    Thanks

They are really dawdling with awarding points for a lot of things at the moment. If you can’t get someone at Brighton to expedite it, I think you’re out of luck.

Maybe this is their strategy to stop people from churning/downgrading immediately once they’ve received the bonus offer.

I was awarded 20,000 retention points by Brighton last Saturday to keep my PRG card for another 12 months (anniversary date is the 4th June), and the points finally posted on Wednesday afternoon.

@Jtz – how did you get the offer?

I called and they offered me an upgrade offer to plat biz

I recently called again about the points and was told I’ll get them at the end of the promotional period they set for the offer so let’s see.

Some of the bonus points have a 120 days T&C and they are using all of it..

Just out of curiosity though, you said you could not justify the £150 fee but then downgraded to the gold card that has a £175 annual fee (I guess you have to pay this as you did not actually cancel the previous gold and waited 6 months). Are you then planning to cancel this one as well and thus only pay £45 approx? Obviously it depend on circumstances, but I have had a chance to make great use of the Platinum in the first 3 months (including the £50 HN statement credit).

The gold card fee was waived for me, not sure why or how though, perhaps they preferred to keep me as gold than let go of me as plat
