Hi all,
I have just hit the spending bonus on the Amex Preferred Rewards Gold, having booked several trips/holidays this year already. I envisage myself using the benefits of the Platinum card more than the Gold if my current travel habits persist in the next year or so.
If I was to upgrade to the Platinum charge card, the only feasible way to do it and gain the upgrade bonus as per the Amex literature below, is by taking out the Amex Green charge card and then upgrade to Platinum. Has anybody had any success with this? It would be a shame to apply for the Platinum if I couldn’t get at least the upgrade bonus points. (I’m aware I won’t qualify for the welcome bonus as I have already had the Preferred Rewards Gold bonus).

Any advice would be much appreciated.
I’m sure someone reported doing this, and actually did the whole thing in a week (applied for Green, got it, upgraded)

That’s very encouraging! It pains me to even apply for the Green card when seeing how bad it is compared to the US version, but if it is a way to get the upgrade bonus points for then upgrading to Platinum, then I’m all for it! Just hope I’m not breaching Amex rules in any way.
