Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Update on the Nectar to Avios conversion

  • 158 posts

For 10 days I have been unable to convert Nectar to Avios. My auto-convert simply stopped working overnight. If I attempted to re-link, it refused my BA login details [which work perfectly across all other BA portal]. I’ve reported this to Nectar who said “it’s a known problem and will be fixed soon…they now say 28 days” Today, an update. Tonight I tried to link accounts via Nectar. First attempt “Your [BA] account is now blocked because of multiple login attempts”. Fabulous. So I had to change my BA password. Now, I’m sure someone is out there who knows how all this works but I note that it appears to me that this login page is separate from the main BA site. i.e. If I’m logged in to BA.com and chose to convert points, the page that it takes me to requires to login again. Is this where the issue lies? Anyway, I’m losing the will to live and I’m going out for a belated celebration of Losar – The Year of the Water Hare. Cheers!

Anything related to Nectar and their OneID/login is a nightmare.

Tried to do a smartshop last week and found it had logged me out yet again. Was forced to enable Pin lock and finger recogition on my phone before it would let me log in (took nearly 20 mins to get a recognisable finger print with my phone’s sensor). Then only once I’d got in successfully I could disable it.

Last year, problems for months with Nectar logins.

Even though I have “OneID” I still have 3 passwords for 3 systems.

So yeah, I’m sure they’ll fix your issue but anytime between now and xmas would be an acceptable timeframe.

BTW, both Sainsburys and BA outsource IT to Tata, I’ll leave it there for you to come to your own conclusion.

Thanks can’t convert either. Was lucy enough to win a Sainsbury nectar competition but now means it reached the annual limit for auto convert and I have to send manually. However it won’t connect despite logging on ok, and hence cannot send manually.

I managed to transfer from Nectar to BA a couple of days ago by initiating from the BA website.

My partner was able to do a manual conversion again last week (Wednesday or Thursday I think) from the Nectar app. My autoconversion that failed last week went through as normal again Monday 20th.

Yeah agree you must go from BA website to convert. Going from Nectar website/app is broken. Be sure you are moving points in the right direction!

Why do I think there’s a good chance the conversion rate Nectar to BA is about to match the recent degradation in the other direction?

I’ve just converted some Nectar points to Avios from the Nectar app, no problem.

That would be an improvement if they matched it… 300 Avios for every 400 Nectar points, as opposed to only 250 Avios currently! Sadly I don’t see that happening, if that’s what you meant.

It seems there has been another big security breach leading to dodgy Nectar redemptions, hence BAEC enforcing password changes and the transfer issues.

I recently transferred all my Avios to nectar (because of the devaluation) and then promptly had them all stolen (who knew thieves could just generate randon numbers on their app to empty Nectar accounts without any security instore whatsoever?) and even went ‘overdrawn’.

Nectar setup a new account and restored all my points, but I couldn’t relink my BA account as it was already linked to the (now locked) previous account. This couldn’t be unlinked, either by me or Nectar, because it was now permanently locked (talk about after the hores bolted!).

Nectar couldn’t help at all but I managed to Unlink and Re-link on the BA site and transfer them all back successfully from the BA side.

I raised this conversion issue with Nectar as I still cannot convert. They emailed today to say it had been cured. Nope. Will not allow me to login for Nectar transfer via any portal. Ho hum….

Nothing to report. Still unable to convert. Nectar and BA would appear to have no idea. The points continue to accumulate in the Nectar account but presently that’s where they stay. I suspect somewhere, somehow, it’s BA IT that’s the kink in the wire but maybe they just don’t like me.. ho ho.

Solved. BA told me that the system “didn’t like” my email address [which I have had since Gmail started and has been my BA email contatct for 12 years….] so I’ve had to change it. I’ve also therefore had to change the email at Nectar. All works now. No idea why BA took a dislike to my original email, perhaps it was listed on some ‘black list’ or something. Anyway, all good now. As you were.

i am having the same issue – i cannot convert Nectar points into Avios!

I have spoken to BA and Nectar and neither can seem to help me. The app does not work either.

The only option given is to convert avios to nectar which i don’t want to do ……..

    Any ideas????

A far fetched idea. Have you tried changing the email address?

who knew thieves could just generate randon numbers on their app to empty Nectar accounts without any security instore whatsoever?

Its not thieves generating random numbers though? Its most likely the staff themselves or someone helped by the staff who can access the nectar numbers from old transactions and use them to redeem points?
Its crazy that the only control mechanism they built was to check if the nectar id was used for spending at that store. Though even that makes no sense when reading some reports that points were used at random stores.

Indeed. The thieves already know the first sets of digits and the modulus check to filter out definitely wrong numbers.

They often have the benefit of people choosing not to collect the printed discount vouchers from the colour receipt printers that also have a section of Nectar IDs on the voucher. Likewise “Would you like a receipt” (with Nectar balance) still on the pumps as the individual drives off.

Last year i sent each of my adult children a screenshot of my Nectar barcode to spend £70 each in Sainsburys.
Is the barcode just a representation of the numbers? Could anyone generate that same barcode with the numbers only?
