Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Two vouchers and three people

  • 12 posts

Please can you help me understand what my options are if I have two companion vouchers and three people. Both vouchers would be issued to person one.

Would that mean that person one pays (in money or points) for a flight and he could bring two companions for ‘just’ the cost of the taxes? Or do you need one full-paying person per companion?

Or could we mix and match and do one voucher as companion and one as upgrade? Not sure how this would work.

I’m trying to work out whether it’s worth doubling down and getting a second voucher or, conversely, just ditching the first voucher and ‘cashing out’ to hotel points.

What VFC status are you? If Red, the voucher is worth 75k points, above that 150k.

You could use 1 voucher as a companion and 1 as an upgrade for the 3rd person (if VS is still allowing this for other pax).

First thing is to check how many points you’re going to need in this new dynamic world!

When I phoned up a few weeks ago I was told that the vouchers I have (3) are all just worth 75k (I am red) and that a “companion voucher” just counts for 75k points. I might have been told wrong info though.

My husband is silver at the moment, but will drop down to red if we have to dig in to get another voucher. But if we can use two vouchers as a 3 for 1 then that would be more valuable to us than using one as a 2 for 1 even if that one could be up to 150k points.

You mean, it’s just 75k points and it doesn’t really matter how you spend them?

You probably need to call VS and see what the agent is prepared to do – they can be quite flexible with these things! Accounts of what’s possible since the change suggest some are more willing than others to be helpful.

We called them and they said no.

We can use one voucher as a companion voucher and one to upgrade, but not two companions.

We’re two parents with a teenager and we’re finding it really hard to find use for our points and voucher in any school holiday now that they’ve changed to dynamic pricing.

Do you collect avios as well? There are still value redemptions to be had but you may need to look at, e.g. going out on VS and returning on BA.

There seem to be some cheaper departures to airports which are less popular or with more competition, so ATL/JFK. Unlike BA, though, bargains can appear a few months before travel rather than having to jump on seats at T-355.

I think I am going to have to phone them back up then as that’s not what they said to me.

Yeah, that’s worth looking at. We have some Avios. I’ll look into it, but it might be that we just have to lose the Virgin voucher we’ve got. I’m not sure that any of their destinations are going to suit us anyway as this would be our main holiday.

Let me know what they say. It would be really useful if there was a published T&Cs somewhere that made all this clear.

This is what Virgin says about the voucher, but you can get agents who are prepared to be a bit more flexible. it’s down to luck really of who answers the phone.

Where were you looking at going? We managed to get bargain UC seats to MCO last month, then used that as a starting point for a Caribbean holiday.

you can get agents who are prepared to be a bit more flexible or agents who don’t understand Virgins convoluted rules
