Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Trying to understand Virgin Reward Voucher redemption rules

  • 1 post

    Hi All,

I appreciate this question has likely been covered in different guises, but I am trying to understand how the redemption of a Virgin Reward Voucher works when upgrading a paid fare.

I am looking to book 2 x return tickets to NYC in Premium Economy for cash which, at the time of writing, would need 128000 to book using points.

I am then looking to use 2 x reward vouchers to upgrade both return seats to Upper Class.

Is this simply a case of the reward voucher is used for a straight swap from PE to UC or, with the new dynamic pricing model, is it based on the equivalent Upper Class points value (in this case 320000, so a difference of 192000), which would mean that the value of the two vouchers (2 x 75000 = 150000) is not sufficient and I would need to ‘add’ an additional 42000 points.

    Many thanks

I don’t think even Virgin staff are fully aware of how this is supposed to work now – I think your best option is to call them and see what they quote you.

NorthernLass is right; even the previously fantastic call centre staff are confused.

However someone raised this scenario previously. And IIRC the way it worked, Virgin gave some notional puny points-equivalent value to the PE cash ticket. Not at all the 128K you saw, as that’s dynamic. Basically they have designed the system to always be to their benefit by using different source numbers to start with.

Worth trawling through previous comments on the new scheme to find it before you call. Forewarned is forearmed. I called to do a simple date change where the points difference was 6K. They quoted me 119K extra to change. I had to have them cancel the ticket and make a fresh booking for….you guessed it…6K more than I originally paid.
