Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Trouble setting up Barclaycard Avios Plus card

  • 150 posts

I’m hoping someone might be able to help here. I applied for the Barclaycard Avios Plus card last Monday and the card turned up on Thursday. However, i still haven’t had the PIN sent through the post. I tried activating the card online but after creating an account and then trying to log in, it says “sorry there is an issue with our system”.

I called and they got me to set up another account, but it is doing the same thing. They also suggested getting the PIN from the app, but I can’t complete setting u the app without the PIN!

    Any ideas?

With Barclays, patience is a virtue, doubly so if you don’t already have an acct with them. As a data point, I applied for and was approved the avios plus card on 1Mar. Card arrived in the post on 5Mar. PIN arrived today.

I’ve had issues for months trying to get a Barclaycard Avios Plus card and what I recommend is that you go into a branch to get this sorted with a human being. I’ve spoken to lots of different teams (in various countries) who don’t know what they’re going and give conflicting information. Most have said “wait for a letter” when they don’t want to tell you bad news, so you end up waiting weeks for anything to happen (or not happen).

One issue that I’m still going through now is that Barclays opened an account for me on 5th February, and then closed it a day later (their own error). After appeal instead of opening up a new account and sending me a new card, they decided to re-open the one they closed and sent me a replacement card. So I’ve only been able to use the card since 11th March yet Barclaycard think it’s been active for over a month!

The issue with that is I can now use the card one month after they opened the account (even though I couldn’t use the initial card). So I now have one month less to get the 25,000 Avios points if I spend £3,000 in three months. And therefore one month less to spend £10,000 in the year.

But even worse, is that when they closed the initial Barclaycard on 5th February, it also ceased the Barclaycard-Avios agreement and the Barclaycard-DragonPass agreement. Re-opening the Barclaycard Avios Plus account on 11th March didn’t reactivate Avios or DragonPass. So I’m now battling with Barclaycard to get those two reactivated and nobody knows how to do it.
