Considering flying F with a baby, as its only 9k avios more. Any advice if i should do it or stay in old club world? I’m also not sure if it will annoy other passengers in F (less concerned in J). Should I be? Are there also any bassinets in A380 F seats?
I’m amused that you are concerned about the ire of F passengers, but not the plebs in J 😉
More seriously:
1) there are fewer passengers to annoy in F
2) F is still public transport. If they wanted an experience where they got to choose their flight companions then they should have chartered a plane. [that statement will annoy some people, but it’s not like adult F passengers are without their foibles 😉 ]
3) Not sure how old your child is but the information here may be useful https://viewfromthewing.com/traveling-with-a-baby-in-british-airways-first-class/
Thanks thats a good link on the type of baby seats allowed in F.
Just thought I’d add to this thread to help future parent(s) travelling with infants following some fairly extensive travelling with our 15 month old.
1. Leverage the priority lanes at airports/stations/wherever etc., even if they are not explicit that you’re permitted to use them. Catch the eye of customer service assistants and they will tend to fast track you. They really do help take the stress out of the process.
2. Baby food/formula varies all over the world. For example, we couldn’t get any of the ‘Ellas’s kitchen’ style pouches in Argentina, so had to make our own. Not a big deal, but worth knowing. Same with formula, not all brands exist, and most formula isn’t veggie. So if you are using a veggie brand like Kendamill, you’ll have to take it with you.
3. Nappy sacks/bags tend not to exist in SE Asia and S America – take your own. Also found in SE Asia, nappies were very much ‘pull ups’
4. Different airlines deal with babies differently – ask/message ahead. For example, on our Iberia long haul from MAD to EZE, we were not provided food and when I asked, I was told I needed to order in advance – not a huge issue if your baby will eat ‘normal food’, but on our short haul, MAD to LHR, we were given 2 massive jars! Qatar provided us with toys, a nappy bag, endless food etc., so the ‘baby’ experience does vary. Eating on a plane with an awake baby is a pain in the arse. Accept that the dining experience on a plane with a baby is non-existent.
5. If your baby is threating to become a toddler (they all do unfortunately!), have a look ahead at where the play areas are in airports/stations, and where you’re staying, have a look using street view at the local parks to see if there’s ‘burning the toddlers energy’ equipment. Even a 15 min run around in these parks will make life so much easier!
6. High chairs vary drastically and in some places (Paris – looking at you), they are non existent. We were gifted a mountain buggy foldable/attachable high chair last Christmas and I could not recommend it highly enough for travelling (and indeed in the UK when visiting friends/family/restaurants etc.)
7. Travel light – people often forget that the destination they’re going to is full of people who also have babies. You’ll be able to get most disposals there (nappies, wipes etc.) notwithstanding point 3 above.
8. Conversely, take advantage of ‘baby’ luggage. It varies by airline but you might be able to get away with not checking luggage in by strategically using ‘car seat/pram covers’ that are stuffed with the babies clothes (and the odd bulky adult jumper)
9. Pack a change of clothes FOR YOURSELF in the hand baggage. Everyone remembers to pack a change of clothes for the baby – this is second nature. People (and I found out the hard way), forget to pack a change of clothes for themselves!
