I’m guessing this is oft asked, but I’m travelling UC on Virgin from ATL to LHR in October for the first time with my son and wonder if window (one behind the other) would be better or two middle seats together?
It should be an A350-1000
Any preferences? Thanks
row 1 suites are slightly roomier and have larger foot cubby for bed-mode, so if that’s of interest to you, and if you want some conversation, go for 1D/G. middle suites have privacy screen which can be opened, and whilst the seats face away from eachother diagonally, you should be able to talk even if not easily look one another in the eye.
on the other hand if you want a view and aren’t that bothered about chatting, go for one behind the other in A or K (you won’t be able to chat without getting up and visiting the other person’s suite).
I work on the basis of window seats for day flights and centre seats for overnight trips.
Equipment changes seem commonplace with VS. This worked well for us last month as we got a brand new A300-900, however there’s a thread running currently where a few people have posted about being changed from good seats to the coffin variety!
Would also depend on how old your son is. If you need to help him with things or assure him in the event of turbulence, then the middle pair would be best. With one behind the other you can’t reach him when the seatbelt sign is on. If he’s teenager then he probably won’t want to talk to you and then one behind the other is best!
If going for 2 window seats it might be beneficial to go for the A side, just in case you get swapped for an A330-300 or 787 (assuming VS reassign seats roughly along the lines of the original selection when they swap aircraft). The A side on these aircraft is significantly more private than the K side. That might be over-thinking it but there are a lot of swaps happening so could come into play.
