Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Transit time in Frankfurt T2?

  • 54 posts

    Morning all,
BA has cancelled our flight 903 at 10:45 from FRA T2 to LHR on 25/1/23 and offered BA907 at 12:05. However, they have an earlier flight,BA901, at 07:25.
Q: We are due to land at FRA T2 on CX289 from HKK at 06:20 that day. What is the general experience of FRA like? We have never been through it. Clearly, our luggage needs collecting and checking back in on BA – how close are the respective areas?
In other words, is this too much of a challenge?
Would save us hours hanging around and meet train times out of London etc.
CX289 has usually been within 15 mins of scheduled time or early (I know!) and if we miss 901 we could still get the 12:05 flight – or am I whistling in the wind?
    TIA

No chance of making 0725 on separate tickets especially with checked luggage.

There are very few airports in the world where this would be possible.

Add to the fact you usually end up walking along very long corridors with no travellators in T2. I think it usually takes us about 30mins to reach border control. That’s then another 30mins as there are always just two posts open and about 3 planes full of passengers to get through. Go for the flight with more time and be thankful you should make it without breaking a sweat.

Actually, I’ve just remembered that CX will through-check bags on separate tickets within oneworld, thus you may not need to go through immigration or go landside after all, so more lounge time… but the lounge used by BA in FRA is unexciting.

Lufthansa does sell tickets with 45 minute FRA connections, so it is potentially possible if you RUN and the transit security is quiet (as mentioned the terminal arms are very long and you’d probably get the gates furthest from the centre).

But unlike a through ticket from Lufty, you would have no protection to be moved to the next BA flight, and there would be issues getting your bags located and transferred to the flight you end up taking. So it’s still a no.

If no checked bags and holding a BA ticket eligible for free same-day change, I would risk being booked on the 0725 BA flight, but with a low threshold to changing to the later flight if any sort of minor delay occurs during landing of the incoming flight.

I’ve been from FRA (T1 though) a few times and I’ve no idea how anyone makes those 45min connections, I always seem to end up on various buses and running for miles.

I would say ideally you’d go to hand bags only and book on the later flight, then if all is going well you can bring it forward.

Because you need to do the SDC 1hr before IIRC you can’t realistically book the earlier flight, you won’t know if you’re going to make it or not by the time you need to have switched flights + you’d be relying on BA IT co operating which on a rebooked ticket isn’t certain.

Checked bags makes it pretty difficult though if you did book the earlier flight and sent the bags through but didn’t make it, if you managed to swap the ticket to the later flight you’ve got enough time to figure out retrieving the bags and having them retagged or take them to check in yourself
