Amex Plat is far from a “no nonsense” insurance policy!
It’s been zero nonsense for me, despite living overseas and making four claims over the years; 3x CDW, which were incredibly straightforward, 1x cancellation.
You live overseas with a UK issued Amex registered to your overseas address? Is it possible to declare your home country as one outside the UK for a UK-issued Amex?
And if your account’s “home” address isn’t the overseas address then how do you claim anything on insurance that only covers trips up to 90 days that begin in your home country, which would be the UK? Live abroad for more than 90 days and you would not be able to prove that your trip began in the UK within 90 days and as such even hire car insurance would not be valid.
