    Watched it last night. Interesting!
Couple of things caught my attention.

Was I the only one thinking about all the MR points the women now have? Also that if they used a gold card they would have got 2x for all those flights. And all those sign up bonuses they missed out on. And if Simon was better at this, he could have referred them all…

Cecilie- if you’re out there – If you bring points, I have a BA companion voucher expiring soon.

IIRC Cecilile got Amex Plat and doubt Simon would want to be seen with anything less. Still she would have had lots of MR points if she transferred out before it all fell apart. Apparently Simon is being interviewed lots in Israeli media I was informed.

Yep – that was my point – if they had got gold instead of plat, she would have earned 2x on those flights instead of just 1x !!

At the end of the documentary it says that the women were still repaying their debts – so they should be able to keep the points.

Haven’t watched this yet, but how does one repaying their debts correlate with them being able to keep their accounts open? It’s just as feasible that Amex closed their accounts and demanded that they repay the outstanding amount.

The account and card were in the women’s names… they let the swindler use the card and he racked up huge debts. Each time he ran out, he got them to call Amex and ask for an increase.

So long as Amex get their money, I can’t see how they could deny the women of the points? Or would amex be able to claim the women lied about the usage etc etc and therefore closed the account without awarding the points?

Amex didn’t get their money, that was the problem wasn’t it.

One woman had ran up 250k debt on her Amex for him.

Was an interesting documentary. I’m surprised they were allowed to run up so much debt, Platinum needs to be paid off in full each month. They must have agreed a payment profile over the next 10 years or so. The get out would have been to claim them insolvent.

I don’t remember it saying that Amex didn’t get their money? At the end, it said the women are still paying the debts (and I suspect using whatever income they get from Netflix).

With such large debts, if Amex pushed they would surely déclaré themselves bankrupt and walk away. So on the basis they are repaying, albeit slowly, you would hope they get the points!

Agree Graham – looks a little bit irresponsible lending from Amex. Although I do think at one point Simon made her a theoretical employee of his company and made some repayments to assuage Amex.
