    Thanks

Following, I’m booked for Jan, not convinced the situation will improve that much by then?

Will there even be a Sri Lanka by then as China has taken over the airports

I went to Sri Lank in April 2022 and had an absolutely fantastic time. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been too (Including the Maldives!)

If you want some recommendation let me know

Speaking as an African, Africa is also an idyllically stunning destination, but I avoid flying African owned and operated airlines because I have first hand insight into the conflict of interest when it comes to spending precious foreign reserves on US dollar denominated spare parts and maintenance.

Sri Lanka is technically bankrupt. How large do you think their airline maintenance budget is right now, and what personal price are you willing to put on the safety risk for you and/or your loved ones ?

If you are asking about quality of the airline then it’s a bit ropey in terms of modern comforts, but food excellent and staff super-nice and helpful.

    Good point.

Also these commercial flights can be labelled non-essential (they are, tbh) and cancelled to save precious foreign exchange spent on aviation fuel.

If you are single or doing TP runs, it might be worth the risk. But if you are travelling as a family for some well deserved vacation, book a different route or destination.

I’ve cancelled flights early August due to the unrest and FCDO warning as we had a stop over in Colombo. Amex Plat insurance said they will consider a claim for rebooking under the circumstances. Will see.
