I’m trying to activate my new card. i get an error. Chat say its a known issue and “have added me to the list”.
So, unlike me, don’t destroy your ‘old’ card until the new one is activated

Chat just immediately told me they have escalated it and the 3000 points I’m still waiting for will arrive in up to 25 working days, so let’s see…

I hope this works out for you. I’ve been told “next week”, “within 72 hours”, “It would have been paid next week but now it’s been escalated, the award will be delayed for 25 working days”. It’s really the most chaotic mess I’ve dealt with for many a year….

This card is an absolute con. Clearly they have decided that the card is a disaster and don’t want to spend any more money honoring the offers. Every time I “chat” to them – which is a painful process – I get told that they will respond by email within X days, which they never do. They are clearly doing everything that can to stop giving the Avios, and HfP seem to have gone completely silent on it as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll be sure to report back. If nothing happens I’ll probably just cancel the card.

Yes, a little input from HFP might be helpful..

What is currently the best way to make contact to cancel the card? Is there a better / worse time of the day?

Chat via the reset your pin option. Stay on, it takes a while to connect to agent.
I got through, told my missing 3000 welcome Avios would be escalated and could be 10 days to get them. They came 2 days later. I’ll be closing the card asap.

Fyi it had been 3months since target spend reached.i was friendly to the CR – open by saying How are you? And end with Merry Christmas. Maybe that helped, maybe it didnt.

I’ve been trying to get the bonus Avios for nearly six weeks now. The chat function in the app never worked for me, so I’ve phoned them four or so times and in the end I sent an email to the Complaints email address.

Interestingly, I got a reply from the “Multichannel Team Manager” at IAG Loyalty even though the email went to EU-complaints@emlpayments.com which I assume is at the card issuer. The email confirmed that my request for the missing bonus Avios had been “escalated” on 13 December. No further information on where the request was escalated to or why it’s now six weeks since I first raised it and no promise of a timescale for remedy.

Pursuing this is a poor use of my time compared with the value of the bonus. So I’m now driven only by the principle that if a respected company makes a promise that should be easy to fulfil, and doesn’t follow through, it’s wrong to let them get away with it. Amusingly, the 500 Avios for completing the Prepaid Mastercard UX survey posted swiftly after I’d done the survey and given some positive feedback – and negative feedback only about the failure to award the bonus Avios.

Oh well, maybe the Avios will turn up as a new year present? Merry Christmas to all on this thread!

If the Multichannel Manager you are dealing with has a surname that can also be a male forename expect no further updates this year as they are now out of the business until the 30th.

They have been dealing with the fictional refund and clawed back Avios issues I have had and in eleven weeks we have now got to the stage of “We know what the problem is and there is no refund due. You will get your Avios back but I don’t know when”.

That same Multichannel Manager e-mailed me on Wednesday to agree that I was owed the Avios and that it had been escalated. Said it’ll take up to 30 days and they’ll be in touch when they know.

Went on app Chat today. Waited all of 10 seconds for an agent to connect and Mastercard closed (and removed from App) within 2 minutes. Shockingly efficient!

Oh well no more MS getting an additional 0.5 Avios free on Amex spend.

Yes,that is indeed the person who sent me the email.

Is it a coincidence (after my posting earlier this afternoon) that two notifications just popped up on the app with both lots of 1500 Avios? Probably. But in any case, all’s well that… And I’ll take it as a sign of seasonal goodwill!

Just received 3000 Avios, 2x 1500! That’s 3 days after I asked for them, and I only asked the one time, so I’m impressed! Seems I got a lot luckier than a lot of others on here.

You could pay off your Amex with the BA MasterCard with no charges incurred?

Yes, due to their mistake with the original T&Cs (possibly closed off now with the latest T&Cs) and incorrect coding but with the monthly cap it was only 1,300 avios a month and once the fee kicks in after 6 months it’s not worth the bother.

This card is straight up a pile of ….

Somehow got a refund from boots.com hitting the account when no refund was ever requested or processed by the merchant, chased up the bonus offer from HFP and also the £500 spend that i had done within a week of card opening.

Called twice to get it escalated and then got an email from avios loyalty saying that i spent £99 at DVLA which does not count and i only spent a total of £465 on the card so far (do the maths and it does not make sense???????) therefore i wont be getting ANY bonus. REALLY?

The challenged them on the refund of how a refund transaction from boots.com has came about and it apparently its “to is not a refund it is a reconciliation and would have no reflection on the bonus points being received.”

This card is just straight up trash i regret doing this

I’ve got my new card now and can’t see anything mentioned about a fee. Is this still happening after 6 months of having the card?

Boots is the retailer I have been having issues with since early October with exactly the same issue – a refund that never was.

Update [sigh]. Another points chase, another promise. This time “my colleague will post your 3000 points tomorrow morning”. Obviously that didn’t happen. What did arrive was a new card. Oh well. I guess that I’ll chase again next week but as I will have had the card over 5 months by then, they might nail me for £2.99. I’ve left £3.50 credit to cover that but I really do think this is an utter crock… Happy New Year!

Whatever happened to the 3000 Avios con ?
Registered and topped up July 29th
Spent the required amount during August
Today, replacement card arrived, expires 12/25
I guess the monthly fee will kick in shortly
But will the 3000 Avios ?

    320 posts

And just why should I have to chase it up ?

Quite. I have given up on these types of ‘bonus’. The Uber one for instance. I couldn’t bear chasing 250 points for months… Good luck.

2023 update. Message in the app now says “You cannot use your card tight now. Contact us for assistance”. I’m not planning on using it but I bet this stops the points being awarded? FFS, I’ve now got to chase this. This simply the worst financial product I have experienced.

Another update. Rang them. “Your new card can’t be used because it can’t be activated. This is a known problem. IT will activate it for you in 5-10 working days.” Also “your points problem has been escalated”. Words fail me.
