TAP miles expiring?

Hi all, who else took advantage of the Gold status match with TAP during covid and ended up with miles in their accounts but have never used them? Mine are expiring in July. 11000 miles. Has anyone got any suggestions on what to do with them?

Good question. I have 14000 miles but not sure when they start disappearing.

I think I need to investigate whether you can part pay with miles towards a fare to Portugal.

I received an email from TAP saying I can extend the life of my miles which are shortly to expire by buying a minimum of 2000 miles which will cost €70. Does that extend expiry of all of the miles or just 2000?

I could join Ckub basic for €109 and earn more miles but it’s not clear if that extends the life of my existing miles.

The email seems to suggest that if I join Club Top all my miles will be extended so I think just buying the minimum 2000 miles won’t be worthwhile.

I don’t think 14000 miles is enough to book a flight so what is anyone else doing? Are they just letting their existing balance expire?

I’ve found plenty of domestic (LIS-OPO, LIS-FAO) fares for 7,500 and a couple lisbon-Madrid fares for 11,000 miles; for that you will need to make a separate booking to catch those flights.

Alternatively you can use the miles towards a booking, but in my experience, the discount offered is very poor

@FearlessTraveller Thank you! I never knew you could fly between LIS and FAO/OPO!!! I have only ever used the train between cities in Portugal. And good shout about a flight between LIS snd MAD. I’m off to investigate.

If you have HSBC Premier card you can transfer 1 mile and extend all your miles by a year.
