Hi, due to be in Sydney for 2 weeks in May with work. Thankfully I don’t need to stay in Radisson Blu in O’Connell street anymore as we no longer have a ridiculous cheap corporate rate post COVID.

Since it’s the only place I’ve stayed there over a half dozen or so visits, I’m not sure on what else there is to offer so asking for advice.

I have Diamond with Hilton and Spire with IHG. I know there is an IC in Macquarie St and a Hilton plus a Curio near Town Hall but have never been near them or know anyone who has.

Anyone got any advice or recommendations please for best Hilton / IHG hotel in or near the centre please?

Hilton is a regular Hilton, lounge was excellent in the past with breakfast on par with restaurant and loads of food in the evenings, although they didn’t let you self-pour the expensive stuff. Check flyertalk and other review sites to see if back to pre-covid.

Curio is, as per the brand, a boutique hotel rather than a standard business-type of building. I have heard good things about it but their rooms are tiny, no lounge but you may get vouchers. If that’s OK then choose based on price?

There are 2 ICs, you can take a ferry or bus from the Double Bay one to the CBD. As long as you pay the asking prices they are both great, but you won’t get much in the way of benefits from being Spire (now Diamond), so depends if your work will pay for club access…?

Thanks John. I was swaying more towards the Hilton’s based on location and this may have confirmed it for me. I’ll likely go for which one is cheapest when booking it. Thanks.

Resurrecting this thread as we plan a trip down under.

Any suggestions for a mid range hotel, with priorities being close to the metro and casual restaurants. Away from the CBD and close to a park or garden would be nice.

Going on the factors you describe, you might consider:

Meriton Suites in Waterloo, close to SCG, Moore Park, Centennial Park but with access to tram into the CBD. Meriton is aparthotel style not a true hotel.

Spicers Potts Point outside the CBD but relatively close to Botanic Gardens and Kings Cross station.

Crowne Plaza in Coogee. If staying here likely would need a bus journey to get to nearest tram or train I think. A good spot to start a walk along the beaches to Bondi

    Holiday Inn at Bondi Junction

Otherwise, if you are open to a short-term let potentially an Airbnb in Bondi, Potts Point, or Double Bay.

For me, Sydney is all about views of the harbour. I recommended it in another thread a few days ago, but I’d consider View in North Sydney (https://viewhotels.com.au/sydney), which has spectacular views and is a perfectly pleasant mid-range hotel. It’s directly above North Sydney railway station (two stops to Wynyard, four to Central), close to the brand new metro line (one stop Victoria Cross to Barangaroo) and the ferry at Milsons Point is maybe 15 minutes walk (downhill from the hotel) so away from but close to the CBD. North Sydney is office central, so a bit dead in the evenings (though there are places open), but there’s plenty of casual and smarter restaurants in walking distance in Kirribilli and McMahons Point. Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden (https://www.wendyssecretgarden.org.au/) and Clark Park are a couple of hundred metres away and very pleasant places to wander or sit and look at the views. If you have kids, Luna Park is a bit further, at Milsons Point ferry. And if you like walking, Berrys Bay has some lovely walks, again with stunning views.

There are other hotels and serviced apartments in that area, lots of AirBnB too; it’s just I’ve stayed in View several times and really liked it.
