I’ve just done a survey via e-rewards about credit cards which then focused on the Amex Gold card.
It asked my opinion on several adverts for the card and what sounded like a financial blog with two people discussing the card. The latter were quite specific focusing on the 4 lounge passes and also the sign up bonus of 30,000 points for new customers. What was interesting is that in order to be eligible for the bonus it appears that not only do you have to spend £3,000 in the first 3 months but you now also have to hold the card for 15 months as you are required to do a transaction in month 15 as well.
I wonder how many people would wait 15 months to get the 30,000 points especially as you have to pay the annual fee before you get it? I don’t think I would.
Seems Amex is intending to tighten up on the SUBs or has already done so. I of course am ineligible for the SUB as I’m not a new customer to Amex.
Amex are the only financial organisation I know that are consistently working hard to reduce their already tiny UK market share.
@AJA – the annoying thing is that although you and many of us are ineligible for the ludicrous/desperate SUBs, we still have to pay for them in our fees and reducing services.
@Harrier25 – yes, it’s rotting like a fish, from the head.
