Discuss today's stories:
Have been a cardmember since 1995. Plat for MANY years. Downgraded to Gold for 18months when all travel stopped. Reinstated to Plat mid-October 21. Card fee was applied. At same time, asked for Mrs-B’s supp card to be re-issued. Mine arrived as did the PP lounge pass. Mrs-B’s didnt.
Have been in contant chat every few days since. Each time promised it will arrive in 2 days. The summary is that Amex claim to have sent the card on each occasion I chatted, and 4 times it has been “lost” by Royal Mail. They then said overnight DHL delivery will bring a 5th card. No prizes for guessing it didn’t arrive.
I rasied a complaint mid Nov. Acknowledgement email received and nothing since. Almost out of time to respond.
On several occasion I have asked to actual talk to someone, given how slow and cumbersome the chat is. Told this not possible. Chat offered 3500MR for compo. Declined this derisory offer
Many more chats until Amex admitted they have “found a technical issue and it will be sorted in a few days”. This was early Dec. Those days went by and another message asking for another 3-5 working days to resolve the technical issue. 14th Dec was offered via chat 2500MR for compo. Declined this reduced offer! Asked for an account credit sum that reflected all the hours I have taken trying to resolve and the lack of benefits/card use for Mrs-B. Chat refused to do this.
The point of my moan is to firstly see if this is a unique experience or are others having issues with getting supp cards issued? Am I right to reject the (what I think are) derisory offers for compo. 2500 x0.8p (g.tee Nectar value) makes for £20 on a £575/year card, or less than a couple of hours of minimum wage. Amex have already lost many thousands of pounds of spend revenue through the need to use another card. and fewer MRs earned too.
I haven’t a clue why the card isn’t coming because no-one will tell me, either in a call or in the chat.
Why are you persisting with chat when you can phone Amex Brighton via the number on the back of your card? Phone between 10-6 on any day and you’ll have a good chance of getting through to Brighton. If you don’t then ask to be transferred.
If you’ve made a formal complaint you may get a better offer of compensation.
Not sure how the £575 factors in as that is the fee for the 1st card holder. The 1st supp is gratis and the 2nd supp is now £275 pa? Not sure you’ve actually lost out on anything but time. So you need to work out what that time is and base the compo on that.
Getting through to amex on the phone isn’t that bad compared to other companies these days, I find talking to someone on the phone yields far superior service, especially on the number on the back of your plat card
Thanks for the advice,both.
Tomorrow’s 1st job!
Advice for everyone, call and speak to Brighton for important stuff.
And you don’t need to hold, just request the call back service.

Where can I find this feature?
