Forums Hotel loyalty schemes Marriott Bonvoy Suite Night Awards / Nightly Ugrade Awards with Marriott

Hi if I make a booking for example in Thailand and then apply the suite night award (this is first time using) Will the hotel see this request ? When the time frame for confirmation / decline arrives Who actually confirms it the hotel or just the system ?

Going away for honeymoon was going to reach out to hotel to see if they would confirm earlier due to occasion

As I understand it, it clears from 3 days prior to arrival. Marriott system will try each day to grant u the upgrade but likely based on forecast availability rather than if it’s there, it’s cleared. Don’t believe hotel has much control with these.

The hotel has no control it’s all the Marriott system. The hotel itself could upgrade you if they wish but it would be complimentary and at their discretion

They can also deny not to upgrade you at all even they have suite available for selling on the day you check in. The Marriott suite upgrade never be guarantee based on my experience.

The night upgrade award inventory isn’t every suite for sale so yeah Marriott system isn’t guaranteed to give you an upgrade.

It’s a good perk if you understand its limitations.

Obviously Marriott can’t take away the last remaining suite because the hotels would cry foul over losing something they can sell. I suspect there are algorithms at work which will clear upgrades as long as the hotel has enough suites left to sell for cash.

I also suspect the algorithm requires more flexibility the longer the stay. If you are staying for 5 nights then giving you a suite upgrade three days in advance (so 8 days away from the last night of your stay) is tough for the hotel because it would have had a lot of opportunity to sell it. Three days out, less so.
