At the moment, the oldest topic on the list of recent topics is only a couple of hours old. I wonder if you could expand (perhaps double?) the number of recent topics to give more time to each posted topic. Based on this post in today’s daily chat, the current limit seems to be putting some folks off using the forum as intended:
Morning all – sorry for not asking this in the forum but a lot of the questions seem to be disappearing from view before people see them.
Just a thought. 🙂

On desktop I have 20 pages under Recent Topics, the oldest being posted 12 days ago, presumably the first post to the Forum by Rhys. Do you get less Recent Topics on other devices?

I see 20 pages, but I think the point that @NorthernLass was getting at is that anything after the first page of recent topics is really buried.
My proposal is doubling the number of recent topics per page so that users don’t have to click through as many pages to get ‘caught up’. I know I’m much less likely to look at anything on pages 2+.

I’d agree this is a good suggestion as especially on busy days “recent topics” will only cover about 2 hours of activity, so even very recent topics get sent to the page 2 graveyard. If you want to be even more clever you could make all posts that were active within a time period (12 hours?) appear on page 1…
As I’m sure the google marketers here would know better than me, engagement with page 2 drops by 92% I believe?
Had another look at recent topics just now, and the oldest on the first page is only an hour old.
Lots of posts getting buried unfortunately. Certainly shows that that forum is being very actively used!

Even better, the whole point of having a forum is that things like this can be a user preference. But I agree the default should be at least 2x as many.
Similarly, the number of posts per page would also be better as a user preference as it’s very few at the moment.

I agree with everything you said. 👍
I don’t get more than one page of “recent topics” – is it my imagination or did there used to be multiple pages?
(edit – I’ve discovered the difference
1. the “recent topics” button has multiple pages
2. the “recent topics” tab does not!
)
(and yay for editing)
