I’ve seen articles and discussion on the order for applying for cards to get sign up bonus’, but I was wondering if there was any guidence on spending to maximise points.
At the moment i always spend on my BA Amex to 10k to get the voucher.
For non amex i will now spend on barclaycard to 10k or on anything after reaching 10k on BA Amex.
Does it make any difference on the card you spend on above 20K?
Inalso took out the virgin offer when HfP reccomended so have that for a year and have reached 10k spend on that already. Will likely cancel that after a year to avoid fee unless folks think it is worth keeping in addition to the other two.
Which card should i spend on now; for example, is there another credit card i should consider having with worthy spending benefits?
Thanks!
Cancel Virgin one month before your card year is up. They are notorious for billing ahead of the card anniversary and there is no refund.
Other paid cards – check if your spending justifies the monthly fee. For Amex BAPP, you should be spending atleast 4167 a month to break even.
+1 on cancelling Virgin early.
If your focus is Avios consider flip/flopping between BAPP (cancelling shortly after getting the voucher) and Gold (cancelling at month 13 having transferred your annual bonus MRs to Avios).

That much? How do you come to that conclusion?

They value the 241 at £0 and 1 avios at 1p, and spending 50k/year gets you 25k avios more than the free card to offset the fee.

It’s £1389 to break even on the BAPP card fee itself per month, but the BAPP only earns 0.5 more avios per £1 spent than the free (in the first year) gold card.
So the break even point where it makes sense keeping the BAPP compared to going for the Amex Gold is £4167 per month.
