    Hi
    We’re 2 adults, 3 children
Looking to book Thailand for Easter 2026 and can extend trip to avoid worst ‘peak’ school holiday travel days (i.e. Thu to say Mon/Tue)
Makes no real difference whether we go via Singapore or Bangkok
So that’s the question I guess …. am realistic that I may need to buy the 5th seat on a Club World sale.
But I have to decide upfront whether to be looking for BKK or Singapore in the midnight rush … is it complete chance or should I try for one over the other?
Similarly, I’m keen to book the route now where there is a bigger chance or more seats coming up again later.
I generally read that Singapore is hard due to the Sydney routing, however, Sin has quite a bit of CW availability at moment a few months ahead, whereas BKK is fully booked throughout (and Gatwick a pain for us)
I am inclined to go for Singapore first and foremost and fall back on BKK as required, but any advice appreciated
    Thanks
    Russ

Yes you are likely to either need to buy a cash CW ticket OR book one person into a lower cabin using avios and hope further CW seats open up.

One factor to take into account is the age of the kids. And do you have any 2-4-1 vouchers?

BKK may not be a BA option as IRRC it’s a winter only route and so would end on 28th Narch 2026.

Alternatives using avios might include AY via HEL and QR via DOH.

For cash and if you aren’t bothered about earning TPs / Avios then Thai and Eva ex LHR might suit or Emirates via Dubai or KLM via AMS

Singapore is definitely going to be much easier for redemptions as there are more flights per week/day.
Remember Kuala lumpar is also an option on BA.

I guess it depends where you are moving onto in Thailand do a search for your flight to their from Sing to see if they exist.

BA to BKK is now all year round (we booked for May this year) so that is an option but securing 4 in CW may be difficult.

You may want to look at Qatar & Finnair too. I’ve done Singapore reward flights in Business a few times and getting two on the dates you want is hard, I would never have got four though. Would two on BA and two on Qqtar/Finnair work on the same day? That way the fifth one you are paying for will also be materially cheaper.

I would aim for Singapore first, Kuala Lumpur second, Bangkok third choice if you’re going with BA – more flights, and LHR rather than LGW (and better chance of Club Suite).

If you aren’t using vouchers/have the avios to afford AY or QR then definitely look at those options. You could also look at flights from BHX (QR) or MAN (AY or QR). Guessing you’d not be wanting to fly from DUB/AMS/CDG etc, with 3 children in tow?

Would you be willing to split the party on separate flights?

    Thanks all.

So, yes, sorry, forgot to say I have 2 x Amex Premium Plus vouchers. Also a Barclays upgrade one, but I am realistic that the 5th seat would probably have to be in cash via a sale. And actually that might be a neater / easier way to book the hotel via BA holidays for the tier points.

The kids are 8, 6, 3 at point of flight, so we’d rather not split group. We’d probably prefer to split classes if it came to it.

For the same reason – their ages – 14hours overnight on a single flight where they will hopefully sleep through, is far more attractive than a Qatar type flight with a changeover in middle of the night. Even if it means going Prem Econ.

Sin and BKK are better for some of our onward destination options (Koh Samoi). Kuala Lumpa seems to have less connectivity onto the holiday destinations.

You can get pretty much anywhere from KL with AirAsia

Whilst that’s true, Ko Samui is a notable exception. I think Firefly used to run a service from the “other” KL airport but believe that has now stopped.
