Has anyone installed solar panels recently? Received a quote of 5k for 10 panels plus another 3k for a 4.3kwh battery. Is that reasonable?
A friend running http://www.usethesun.co.uk says that is a fair quote (would be similar if you used him he mentioned) … so seems legit.
Paid 5.5 for 11 panels a couple of years ago. This was when FIT payments were coming to an end. Don’t have battery so can’t comment. Despite working at home and using large appliances during day when possible, I still export more than 50% to the grid in Summer, so a battery is something I’d consider as they become a bit more proven.
Seems reasonable. It’s worth getting some more details on the brand and performance of the panels, the battery and the inverter as what you can get varies widely. Joju Solar are the company I recommend most – no pressure selling, at least three different options provided in each quote with clear explanations of differences, tech, pros/cons etc. You may want to get a quote from them to compare your existing one.
Also, is that quote fully installed?
Got in just before the price rise, paid £4.1k for 4.9kWh of solar. Just waiting for the meter to be upgraded because it seems to go ‘backwards’ (might not have told them that bit), I’ve had 2 cancelled appointments so far, £30 compensation for each. I’m still on a price fix but reckon with the current meter situation I’ve had a 6% return in 7 months. Batteries go in next month which will allow me to top up from E7 when the sun isn’t shining. I would definitely get the battery too, the best Smart Energy Guarantee rate is Octopus at 7.5p but you have to be a customer, next best is 5.5p, considering where electricity unit prices are and are heading this is just an insult. Better to keep any excess and use it yourself when the sun goes in.
Forgot to add, make sure that you own the panels and receive proof of ownership and a MCS certificate. If you don’t you may have problems with selling your house or exporting any excess.

Looks like half price at night so I can charge the batteries overnight when it’s not sunny. Single meter these days for E7 or whatever I can get when my fix ends in Sept.
