Hi, Haven’t seen much discussion on soft landing changes. Has this been confirmed as a dead thing by BA? Yes it was always an unofficial policy, but looks like the whole of BAEC was changeable on a whim to be fair.
A lot of folks on here in Gold via TP runs this year or such, so seems highly unfair for these folks to drop to Blue in April 2026 without some transitional arrangement. Same for Silver really but less of a jump. So what’s the latest around all this and BA’s policy going fwd?
They might dream up something relating to the month Gold was reached/maintained and if it was with BA Holidays bonus tier points or not, ie we note you reached/maintained Gold in June 2024 without bonus TPs, so a soft landing to Silver is being awarded until 1st August 2026.
They could factor in how many Lifetime Tier Points less bonus tier points you have at 31st March 2025.I can’t seeing them being generous with a full year of Silver status.
There’s been plenty of discussion, and several people have been told by BA CS staff that soft landings will remain, though of course that has no enforceable weight.
I’m hoping it’s one of the rolling back elements Rob keeps teasing us with recent allusions to. Originally I should have been at least Silver until August 2027. This then changed to April 2027. Then if BA does bin soft landings, I will drop to Blue in April 2026! Which would suck a bit, though I can’t get too stressed about it until we have more certainties, to be honest.
In the meantime, I am working my gold status until at least 30/4/26 with multiple economy trips via the LHR F lounges. (Apologies, @JDB, and in mitigation neither OH nor I actually eat or drink that much compared with other lounge users we’ve seen). Free seat selection and extra baggage are the status perks I actually value the most.
I guess if I end up back as blue, I’ll probably use our avios and annual 241 for an F trip starting somewhere in Europe and get the perks anyway, and direct cash spend at airlines which serve MAN better than BA does. And VS points/voucher, of course.
They were scrapped. It seems they will now be brought back.
The rollback now has so much being thrown into it (lower thresholds, ability to qualify by segments) that BA seems to be holding it all back for one announcement rather than dripping stuff out. It could all change again but the upcoming launch of the Iberia thresholds (far lower than BA’s spend target, segment option) means that BA is running out of road. Allegedly.

if these roll backs are confirmed, what a horror show from BA. Brunch gate and the club changes, have both caused widespread negative sentiment to BA, are they not properly assessing these moves before launching?

Is this good news, or bad news, or just more collateral mayhem and we should expect a rough ride of it? The whole thing has been pulled apart with pros and cons in the other main discussion thread > 4000 posts – but I have not heard of any rollback rumors per se or about soft landings at all. Am I looking in the wrong places?
The most pertinent thing to most people would be the timing of the next announcement, which we would hope would be sooner rather than later – for sure it is costing BA revenue and customers almost daily for this calendar year.
If the above is all in the wind – what is the timeline we think this will crystallize in? As folks are deciding now to jump ship, spend elsewhere etc.
Well I’m sure all these changes and uncertainty must be affecting bookings, not just from the UK. I’ve just booked a return flight to Europe (which priced up cheaper than EasyJet) but as two one way tickets. The cost of the flight back from Europe to UK in July was just under £100 if booked as part of a return. But in Euros as a single ticket, it was less than €70!
My issue is, I have already retained my status for this year, but I’ve a lot of upcoming flights with BA, Iberia and Finnair and I’ve have no idea where would be best to credit these points. I have been looking at all 3 loyalty programmes. To some extent it depends what Iberia decides to do. My understanding is they have to give IBPL members at least one month’s notice of changes, so all should be clearer within the next few weeks.

Given they still haven’t been able to tell us what the earning arrangements for the Amex card are, goodness only knows. I’d expect any changes to be announced pretty late on. There will be a lot of internal blame shifting going on and a desperate attempt to dress this up as not backtracking.
Of course there won’t be any backtracking. It will be further improvements based on customer feedback.
At least this time the second part will have some truth to it.

I guess they can take their usual line of “we’ve listened to customer feedback…”
Bumping this to get any word on the latest developments – the suggestion was they “might” be allowing soft landings.
What would be the envisioned likely scenario now for if you have GOLD pre April 25? I am assuming (or hoping) that lasts til March 26 then drop to Silver from April 26-March 27?
Any comments appreciated as seen differing reports on FT and here.
There are no latest developments, why do people keep asking?
Best to wait until April 2026 and you will find out then for sure if the (unofficial) policy has changed.

Im asking because of this comment, and the direction of travel (sic) things are taking.
Agreed, nothing to see here. If or when something is announced you can be sure it won’t be necessary to ask for details. It’s already one of the most talked about subjects even when there’s nothing to say!
“If I had a Tier POint for every time someone asked about soft landings …..” 😉
Thanks anyways!

This didn’t age well sadly 😢
IAG surely know better than this. I dont think Ive ever seen such a bad example of customer analytics and unscientific application of them

You may possibly be correct, but it’s a very bold and unsubstantiated assertion unless you have had access to the data and analysis thereof.

If you had told whoever made the proposal that the business goal was ‘make more money from seat & bag fees’ – this would be a good way to do it, mission accomplished!
