Forums Payment cards Virgin Atlantic Silver at booking, Red at flying?

  • 159 posts

I had Silver Status when I booked our flights to/from USA for May 2025

However, I now have Red Status and will when we fly.

Do the Silver benefits only apply when the booking was made or do they also apply when we fly?

    1) do we still get the extra baggage allowance?

    2) does the family account set up under Silver Status remain now we are Red?

    Thanks

    An additional question lol

My wife is Silver until end September.

We need to book a one way flight for October 2025 LHR-MIA

Is there any benefit in booking a flight in September (while she has Silver Status) for any date in August 2025 – and then changing the date when the October 2025 dates open up?

We’d be using a voucher for PE (no point UC for a daytime flight given the obscene charges)

The benefits are for when you fly, so unfortunately for both your questions you’ll get nowt. Not sure about the household account

    Another question:
Guessing if you book using companion voucher Silver+ is needed at booking and being red at checkin is irrelevant.

I have just earned a voucher myself, I am currently virgin red, will be BA silver soon. Am I right in thinking:
To status match I need to do a cash flight, and a quick sale NYC rtn will suffice.
When I get back I will be Silver and should be fine to book for the following year where the silver status may have run out. I’ll be flying UC so silver benefits wont be required. Trying to aviod the extra 50% Virgin points.

    That is my understanding @lordy

Although I believe your Virgin status is upgraded three days prior to the Virgin flight. From memory you need to give the PNR as evidence of your booking when submitting the status match.

One other thing that I think is the case, is that silver members can gift their companion voucher. So I might see if it is feasible to gift a future Virgin voucher to Mrs Froggee when I am still silver. She can then do a status match and hopefully be silver in time to book using the voucher I gifted her.

If I’m wrong hopefully someone will correct me!

    Thanks Froggee
Yep, my aim is to use it as a 2for1 than a 2 for 1.5 voucher.
Its a shame they issue these vouchers so quick as well, Even spending 2k a month on card, its done within 5 months. Will defo look at the free one as an overflow card.

I think silver members can only gift their voucher as a clubhouse one, but I might be wrong. Maybe it would be wise for Mes Froggee to get her own when they do a enhanced

I just checked the comparison table and it appears to be a thing.

With the increased Amex spend on BAPP and HSBC now being an excellent way of earning Krisflyer miles, I don’t think we have the financial appetite for another card!
