Got an eight day stay in Sicily coming up (late June early July) and a £ 200 Amex travel credit to use (although we could probably find another use for it if required). Flying into and out of Palermo, but have no strong interest in staying there. Ortigia / Syracuse and Etna are the must-sees, and a few days on a beachside resort somewhere would be lovely (or inland resort with a good, long, pool). Will almost certainly hire a car.
Any suggests on hotels, villas or similar?
No suggestions on hotels as it’s at least 15 years since I last went to Sicily but I enjoyed Syracuse, Taormina and Noto. Catania is also with a visit.
Never visited Palermo but I think you should at least visit it while there as it looks like it has plenty of baroque buildings and churches.
Sicily is a big island so if you’re planning on getting around you’ll definitely require a car.
Are you flying on a reward ticket? If not curious why you chose Palermo which only earns 40TP rather than Catania which earns 80TP on BA.

was a lovely boutique hotel on the bottom slopes of Etna – made a good base to head up the volcano.
Taormina was superb – the Atlantis Bay or Mazzaro Sea Palace both on the beachfront.
Grand Hotel Timeo, or the Four Seasons right in the town if you want to really splurge – Or just go to the Four Seasons for dinner – was a great “White Lotus” experience.
And yes, definitely hire a car.

unless you are a nervous driver; driving standards are marginally better than Rome !
Are you flying on a reward ticket?
yes … and all the status I need secured for 18 months so not looking at TPs

thanks for the resort tips @StanTheMan — look lovely! however, I’m resisting the splurge urge 🙂
We are off to the Ortea Palace in Syracuse for my 20th wedding anniversary in October, but can’t say what it’s like as not been before! Did manage to pick it up at a third of the price Marriott were asking for it, so hoping it’s a bargain!

Congrats on the 20th anniversary — and it seems Ortea, and another nearby, Mangia’s Brucoli, are now with Marriott Autograph. I’d thought Sicily was a chain-hotel free zone. Thanks for the heads-up.
