I have 40kg of checked bags to take on the following flights:
BA premium econ LHR-DOH
QR DOH-BAH (separate ticket not yet booked)
QR BAH-DOH-BKK F/J – with DOH transit time of 2 hours.
Arrive in BAH in the morning, day room at hotel, meeting in afternoon, fly out the same night.
Question: on arrival in DOH from LHR, can I check the bags in for DOH-BKK straight away (will be less than 24 hours away) rather than bringing them to Bahrain and back?
Alternatively they could be put in paid storage at DOH but 2 hours may not be enough to exit immigration, retrieve the bags and check them.
DOH-BAH is 7000 avios in Y but 42000 avios in F and the regional F is not really necessary for 1 hour. It may be cheaper to just pay for an extra bag if the bags have to be brought to Bahrain and back, but wondering if it can be avoided.
I wrote this in the first person for simplicity but it’s actually a colleague with no oneworld status. I thought of the RJ status match to oneworld ruby to get extra bag allowance, but they don’t qualify for that.
Well it’s not short checking and the answer is a no from QR
I would not expect the ground staff (robots) to ignore this policy either and I can’t think that the self service station would enable it either.
