Planning a USA road trip with 3 nights in Sedona. Any recommendations from HfPers?
ThanksI believe it was Chris Heyes that used to mention this place https://www.bestwestern.co.uk/hotels/best-western-plus-arroyo-roble-hotel-creekside-villas-03099. I suppose much depends on your budget and expectations.
Go a couple of hours north and visit the Grand Canyon. Well worth it in wintertime too. We stayed at B/W PREMIER Grand Canyon Squire Inn (8 years ago) which was fine.
Reasonably priced, decent accommodation was in short supply when we went – expensive resorts aplenty if that’s your thing. There isn’t a great deal to do there for 3 days other than visiting the vortices/vortexes and hiking (weather dependent);there are a lot of tourist trap shops downtown. We eventually stayed in Flagstaff instead which was a good base for the local area, including Sedona.
Thanks all. Not going in summer. Been to Grand Canyon and stayed in the BW. Staying in Flagstaff. Will look at the Arroyo Roble. Our plan may change….. a little!
Ridge on Sedona Golf Resort by Diamond resorts. Came back last week, absolutely loved this place, I know it’s not technically in Sedona itself but it’s a 5 minutes drive, and so much cheaper and larger than nearly everything in Sedona itself. We had a standard suite, which was basically a large one bedroom flat, best bath we’ve had in the states for years (actually a bath, not a shower/puddle combo), lovely, and includes washer/dryer in apartment if you’re road tripping. Shops, bars and restaurants a 5 minute walk away (Clark’s market a great supermarket option for cooking in your own kitchen if you fancy a night self catering, which we did having found prices of restaurants especially seem to have doubled in the last few years)…
20 years ago did a trip to that part of the world and stayed at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Far less touristed than the South – highly recommended.

Agreed, much nicer and less developed than southern rim. But be aware it’s a 60 (from memory) mile drive and the same back, from the nearest road that goes anywhere.
I stayed here in March https://www.thestarmotel.com/ was the only property that wasn’t full 3 months in advance and under $500. (The HIX was pricing well over $500).
Its location is excellent, parking spot for each room at the front, clean, but expect traffic noise. It’s a good fallback for one night, wouldnt do 3 nights in Sedona, it’s waaaay too busy. Traffic was insane in March, took 20 mins to do a mile around 5pm.

I liked Sedona (apart from the bitey things when I went in the Summer a few years ago)
We stayed at the Matterhorn Inn in April this year – it was pleasant enough with pool / hot tub but quite expensive… all accommodation there was expensive at the time though tbh (and still is I think). We also found food quite pricey too.
3 nights seems a lot to me unless you have specific plans (ie. hiking).
The drive in from Flagstaff is quite beautiful though 🙂
What time of year are you planning to go?

Right at end of January 2023. Starting Phoenix and heading south circling round to Flagstaff and Sedona and back to Phoenix before flying to Hawaii( using AA credit… use it or lose it!) we can alter days here and there. All accommodation is cancelable and indeed, have saved several thousand points by rebooking

Thanks all for infoRemember Jan/Feb is high season in Sedona. So booking early is essential.
I was through a similar route 1st week March and Tucson/Phoenix Temps were in the high 20s C,same at Joshua Tree and Kingman, then Flagstaff I hit blizzard, 4 inches of snow and temps of -12C, yes minus 12, and then next day I was in Sedona and it was pushing 32C.
I’d spend a night in Williams, 1 or 2 in Flagstaff, and then head south. Maybe take the longer route into Phoenix via Jerome.
All good advice. Yes…. aware of the vagaries of the weather . Fully expecting all seasons and climate types in a couple of weeks! We have everything booked bar Sedona!
.. but it’s all a moveable feast except flights so we can work around suggestions
I was doing a Vegas, Sedona, Phoenix trip in January 22 which I cancelled as everything was refundable and I had two further US trips in April and June which I decided I’d rather stick with. As a result of this thread was just browsing hotels for Sedona and Phoenix, ouch, prices have got crazy.
