Thanks everyone! @davefl which Kimpton did you stay at please? Looking at booking the Palladian for the two nights we’re there.

It was the Palladian. They were having staffing issues whilst I was there, all the kitchen staff didn’t turn up on my 2nd day, so breakfast didn’t start until 10.30am at which point it was brunch! The new front desk manager was lovely but mentally shattered with the goings on, bumped into her the next day around town and we talked for a bit. Hopefully that’s resolved by now.

Location is great, Tagliapietra gallery is next door, visiting that was beyond amazing. (He taught Chihuli), Seattle Glass blowing centre is a few blocks away if you need to see even more glass after the Chihuli by the space needle.

Wine hour in the lobby every day is very free with their pour but strict on the hour 🙂

I dropped my car back at Avis and walked the three blocks up hill. Hate having to faff with parking. If you do take a car, there’s drop off parking at the side of the building, not the front, it’s not at all obvious from google maps.

@davefl thanks for this! I’m looking forward to seeing all the glass. Great tip about wine hour! I don’t think we’ll hire a car as it’s only two days and we’ll hire one on Vancouver Island as will be there for about a week.

Also booked into the Embassy Suites for the end of this month, before
getting the Amtrak next door to Portland – can’t wait! Just a shame there’s
    no Amex Dining Credit, grr…!!

Lyft (preferable over Uber as much cheaper) and they seem to send a 20% discount every week, if you can’t be bothered climing hills as the Palladium is at the top pof one. 🙂

Parking charges are insane so definitely wouldn’t even consider the car, especially for 2 days. I used the buses a lot around town and out to the suburbs. Quick clean and comfy.

Sorry for hikacking this discussion! I’m going to be in Seattle at the end of November. When I was booking it, I didn’t realise I’d be flying from Ketchikan to SEA on Thanksgiving (I’ve now realised and have a non-refundable flight).

Does anyone have experience of Thanksgiving in Seattle? Are any food shops/restaurants going to be open? Will transport be available from the airport to downtown?

Buses and light rail (trams) will run a Sunday schedule. A lot of restaurants will be closed, some will open (some even close for mother’s day to give staff time off).

Best thing to do is look at google maps closer to the time, work out what restaurants you fancy eating at and look at their websites. Typically Asian/Chinese restaurants will be open. Google maps is really good for finding opening times for lots of places, they really keep it up to date.

We were in Seattle at the end of Feb/early March (for our 2nd time) and stayed at the Sound Hotel Seattle Belltown (Tapestry, Hilton) as some of the Kimpton reviews were a bit mixed. We had breakfast once using the Hilton credit and it was a bit disappointing, so after that we just used it for drinks/snacks from the well stocked ‘shop’ in reception.
Last time we stayed at the Alexis when it was a Kimpton which was very nice and we were upgraded to a big suite.

One road over from the hotel was a homeless shelter so it was busy over there but other than that we didn’t see many and certainly were not bothered by anyone.

We got the tram in/out of the airport and other than that used Lyft which was reasonable.

We like our beers so went north into the Ballard/Shilsole areas that are far more residential but have lots of breweries/tap rooms that are family friendly and easy to walk between.

Went to watch the Kraken and a can of beer from the self serve area was $16+tax so needless to say we only had one! But everywhere in the States is expensive at the moment!

Actually I would disagree with that. There are plenty of reasonably priced places but you need to move away from the west coast, east coast and FL.

Utah for example was surprisingly inexpensive.

Now that Utah have got themselves an NHL team I may just try that!
