Hi all,
I received an email from Statusmatch.com (with RJ branding in the email) this morning offering me a “time limited offer” to extend the RJ Gold Sparrow status that I got through the hotel match last year until 7 April 2026 for $350. My current status doesn’t expire until sometime in August, so I don’t understand why I’m getting this now. I’d rather hold out until my current status is ready to expire before jumping on this – but i’m not sure how long “time limited” actually is.
I’ll email RJ to ask about the details of this. Has anyone else been offered this?
Someone in the daily chat thread yesterday said they got an email. It depends on what your upcoming travel plans are. Mine are such that if I did get the offer I would take it, despite my current status ending in August same as yours
Out of interest, have you credited any flights to RJ? Wondering if it’s a targeted thing
I’ve definitely made good use of the status. An arbitrary estimate from free seat selection and lounge access alone (not including priority boarding, etc.) would well cover the cost of this renewal offer. I haven’t credited anything to RJ. I mainly use Avios for flights, so status helps to smooth over the rough edges when flying economy on BA and the likes.
Yes definitely! Fingers crossed I get the same email
Edit: is there anything in your Status Match account about it? Just wondering if I logged in whether I would see anything about it or not
Nothing in my Statusmatch account, which made me question if it was a genuine email. If I get anything back from RJ about this, I’ll post it here so we’re all in the loop.
I and another family member got this. Snapped it immediately. Good offer for us with our multiple OW bookings. Free seats and luggage plus lounge access.
Definitely! Nothing for me (so far?) so perhaps it’s targeted.
It is targeted as you can only use the personalised link once and it is prefilled with name and frequent flier number.
Ah, interesting – as with @warrior01 have you credited any flights to RJ? I have so perhaps they think because of that I am definitely sticking with them so less incentive to entice me to stay?
Nothing here as of yet. Might it be it is only sent to those who haven’t credited anything & those nearing expiry?
@titaniumostrich Someone mentioned that their expiry date wasn’t until August, so I don’t think that is a factor, but perhaps it’s to do with activity on the account (or rather no activity)
I had 3 flights credited to RJ. my gold expired feb 2025
That’s that theory disproved then – let’s keep our fingers crossed that more of us sparrows get offered the chance to keep our golden wings!
Me too! I am especially hopeful that I will start crediting at least one flight to this year!
In the meantime everything is eerily quiet concerning OWE. We were hoping to be flying high like an ostrich by now.
If I get the offer before my year ends, I’ll take it just to have the bases covered. If status is not granted, I’ll have to think about doing another mileage run… Although it was ridiculously fun.

Oh no, have your flights not credited properly? Of my 3 so far, 1 did automatically and the other 2 I had to get manually added. They do respond on email but it takes a few days – I think they must be a very small team as most of the emails are signed by the same person. But sending in my flight details and a screenshot of my boarding pass from my Apple wallet got it sorted after a couple of weeks, so hopefully you’ll be soaring up even if it takes a bit of sorting out
The first few got sorted within two weeks, but I’m waiting on the majority to post, did retro crediting too. I also think it might be an Iberia thing to be honest, taking a grand old time to verify all these flights on behalf of a OW partner? No data to prove this, I’d be interested in knowing how long Iberia flights take to post on Malaysia & Maroc.
My 3 so far have been BA, but I do have a couple of IB coming up so let’s see. I was also looking into Malaysian Enrich, seems like a close second to RJ if you want to earn status on cheap segments. RAM requires minimum number of RAM flights. There’s a useful thread over on FT, with a Google Drive document outlining the pros and cons of the OW FFPs if you’re not already aware of it

Do you have the link to this Google Drive please? I may have missed it, but been trawling through FT for an hour and can’t find one
It’s not in an intuitive place! The post thread is in the BA Club section. Long thread but the link for the Google Doc is in the sticky first post
Thread link – the document is linked at the top
Pretty sure there is some poor sod rerouting 20 of their flights via Casablanca. From what I gather on the internets, it is a rather dire place to connect. And the airline leaves much to be desired. But I salute those willing to go the distance!

I look on in wonderment as BA or OWE status is of no interest, even if Avios are of great interest but also people are clearly rushing off to join other schemes without understanding them properly and assuming those schemes won’t also change in a disadvantageous way with little or no recourse for a UK consumer.
The terms eg of the RJ scheme give the airline carte blanche to make changes without notice and while people have had assurances that you don’t need to fly any RJ sectors, the terms still say you do.
There are going to be some very unhappy punters who don’t qualify for the intended status in some of these schemes next year.
@JDB and equally there are also plenty who know exactly what they are/aren’t getting into. I have read the RJ Ts&Cs carefully and I am fully aware that any FFP can change at any time – as we have all seen with BA! I am enjoying the next few months doing some short trips to places that I want to go to that I might not otherwise have got around to for a while if it hadn’t been for the RJ status, or trips I was making anyway. If I get some sort of continuation of status with RJ as a result then great. If not, it’s just been a bit of fun and no tears will be shed.
