Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Reward stay fifth night free at InterContinental Hong Kong

  • 10 posts

    Hi guys

I would like some advice on how I can go about my trip to Hong Kong. I would like to stay at the Intercontinental in Hong Kong for five nights.

Since I wanted to use my points for all the stay I have noticed that you can get one night free if you stay for 5 nights.

Am I correct in this thinking and if I am not, what else would I need since I have calculated that I have enough points

    Thanks in advance

Only US IHG credit cardholders get 5 points nights for price of 4. The rest of us don’t.

You may be confusing it with occasional IHG Destined (agent rate only) packages that offer a free night for varying lengths of stay.

How many points does it cost for the nights you want to stay? You can easily check this on the IHG website.

Also bear in mind IHG points pricing is dynamic. You only have enough points at the time you check. The points price can change daily. It’s best to book on points once you decide to travel, then unbook and rebook at a lower points price if it drops.

True, and precisely because there is no 5 for 4 offer for most people, you can also book each night separately and monitor the prices!

I was holding off saying that as I feel that’s getting into IHG 202 territory 😉

You’re probably right, given OP only has 6 posts …

You have to book them together if you want to use a CSU

OP hasn’t mentioned a CSU, but that is also true! Or at least, if you don’t want to have to grovel to the hotel and ask them to let you stay in the suite.

wow thanks a lot guys, I really do appreciate everyone taking there time to get back, and so fast if I may say so.

Yes it seems I looked at the agent rate but at least I now know that I can’t get the credit card since I am based in the uk.

The points on my end were showing 196,000 for 5 nights. 38,000 each night.

since my dates are fairly flexible I thought to check the following week and the total that week was 200,000, 40,000 each night

I stayed at the property in November 2024 as well, and I used points but it was only for a 2 night stay.

Since this upcoming stay is a longer trip I thought it might be an option I could possibly use.

Additionally I didn’t pay tax last time, as I paid using points so I would really like to do the same, every bit helps I guess since Hong Kong isn’t as cheap as it once used to be

    Thanks again everyone

I have a suggestion, depends on your IHG points balance. Would you have 400,000 points or more?

If yes, and (do check) if the cancellation deadline is well into the future, you could book 5 nights in both weeks that you want to travel. As separate bookings.

That way, you have covered the hotel across 2 possible travel weeks, giving you greater flex when looking at redemption flights.

As Northernlass suggests above, booking each night as a single reservation would give you maximum flex on price, as you can keep re-pricing the trip and rebooking individual points nights if the points price drops. But, be honest with yourself before doing that, as it requires a mindset of being organised with reservation numbers and re-checking regularly. If you’re not likely to, might be easier to just book 2 5-night stays.

They get 4 for the price of 3.

hi Blair, I don’t have 400,000 but I have 231,000 so maybe I could look into the promotion of buying points when it is available.

being honest I might forget to monitor it religiously and therefore the every night as a single booking might be something I might mess up on.

The good thing is that I now know that I can make a booking and monitor it maybe every month to see if the points lower. since I am thinking of traveling in November I have the flexibility to do so. if the points change and it is lower, I now know I can cancel and rebook so I get the lower rate. if they don’t or are higher, I think it means I booked at the right time.

the only thing with the single night booking on my end is that it is showing to be more expensive in terms of points. I don’t know why, maybe its just me but on average each night in the 5 night booking as one whole booking was between 38-40,000 points.

on the same dates making a booking for one night was in around 42,000 + each night.

That shouldn’t be the case, have you double checked the dates?

In case it helps you…I booked the IC HK in April ’24 for 2 nights in Feb this year. Booked at 51k average per night, I rebooked 6 times until final rebook in Dec ’24 for 33k average per night. From this point the rate only ever increased. I also used a SUV and got the Victoria Harbour full suite so was very pleased in the end of the day for total of 66k for 2 nights at the weekend

just trying to illustrate that there is benefit to booking separate nights and being organised to check every couple of weeks or so
