A refund for a BA FTV has appeared on my husbands BA Amex (blue card) and it has created a large minus Avios balance of -1282 points. As we are not using this card at the moment (and don’t plan to as trying to reach bonus spends on other cards) is there a way I can ‘repay’ the Avios to this card from our household BAEC account? I don’t want to sour our relationship with Amex and cancel the card with a negative balance
Ask Amex? If I remember well, for MR points, you could have paid it up, not sure about Avios…
Are you actually planning to cancel the card? If not, just leave it as negative. It’s not a huge amount of points anyway, the cost for Amex wouldn’t be significant…
There is really next to no risk of souring your relationship with Amex over that. Many people cancelled their cards with negative balances following covid cancellations – I think mine was at about -10,000 when I did so.
Re-applied for a new BA Amex a few months later without issue.
I am actually still getting the odd refund on the old card too, and just get the credit balances transferred over.
