Stopped at the Park Plaza Westminster last weekend (solo traveller) – got upgraded to a very nice room on 10th floor with great view, plus access to the Executive Lounge, had a nice afternoon tea, then brekkie there the following morning. A good stay for £130.
Quick question – can I book using my VIP status for my parents to stay to get the same upgrade/benefits as me? I would book and pay, just wouldn’t be me staying. They have no status.
I’d say no, why would that work unless they masquerade as you?

I think you’ve inadvertently provided the solution 😉
That goes for any scheme, and a big risk of losing status if caught.
In my limited experience of Radisson, they are much more likely to ask for ID than either Hilton or IHG so you might come a cropper pretty quickly.Great thread. I booked the lowest room category possible for the Radisson Blu at Manchester Airport. I was a premium member at the time.
Roll on a few weeks later and tonight I checked in and was far from impressed with the receptionist but she did inform me as a V.I.P member I was upgraded to an executive room with lounge access.Very useful thread. I’ve also got VIP and we’re booked into Red Heathrow next month. Has anyone got any experience? It looks to me like there’s a lounge but it’s hard to tell for sure.
Hotel: Heathrow Radisson Red
Room Booked: 2x Standard
Upgraded?
Standard to Premium x 1, on the exec floor
Other standard no upgrade
Lounge Access: yes, and very nice it is
Welcome gift: my kids got a chocolate bar and a drink in their non-upgraded twin, but we got nothing!
Service: 8/10
Overall rating for price: 9/10 – paid £90/room with the booster. Also got 15% off dinner
Breakfast: they were definitely expecting two for free – had to make a bit of a fuss to get the children in, too, but ultimately 4 free breakfastLooking to use my VIP status upgrade over the next few months but I’m finding that given I’m booking for a family of 3 (2 x adults and a 5 year old), I need to book a Premium room to begin with. Given my son has recently turned 5, I’m not sure if we’ve crossed a threshold that is likely to apply to all chains going forward (mostly stick to Hilton due to Gold status) or whether this is very much a Radisson thing.

Booking engines and hotel group websites are, as you’ve found, inflexibile and bound by pre-programmed blanket rules, and Radisson’s IT in general is especially rubbish. If you contact individual hotels, most are very helpful about what would be most suitable for your family (and if they’re not you can reconsider whether you want to stay there) – this will often be different to what the website offers. This can generate quite a saving too.
Just back from Dubai, stayed at 2 Radissons
Booked the cheapest rooms,
Deira Creek, 2n, upgraded to 1 bedroom suite
Dubai Canal view, 1n, upgraded to junior suiteWelcome gifts at both – fruit platters and some sort of pastry plate
Lounge access at both with happy hours. Deira creek also has “high tea” in the afternoon
Early check-ins at both, with Canal view giving us access at about 11am after our 9am VA flight

I got the Club Avolta status matched thru Skyteam Elite Plus and sent a mail along with the screenshot of Club Avolta card, requesting upgrade to the VIP status to the e-mail address mentioned in the HFP article.
This was 7 days ago and haven’t heard back from them. I did get the automated reply.
Would anyone happen to know how long it takes for Radisson to process the request?
Thank you in advance.
@inman do you know if they are still running the status match with Club Avolta?
From what I recall it wasn’t a long lasting offer, as this did come out a few months back.
They were fairly instant or at least same day for many of the readers on HfP.

Club avolta website still has the page about Radisson VIP status.
https://www.clubavolta.com/our-partners/hotels/radisson-rewards
However, the app doesn’t have anything on Radisson at all. I used the email address instead.
I’ll update the forum if/when I get a reply.

Check your spam as that’s where my confirmation from RR went

Thanks for the response, unfortunately it’s the convenience that comes with booking engines and hotel group websites/apps that really helps with my travel planning process. If I see two hotels side by side and one states upfront that there’s the option of a rollaway bed and the other requires me to book a family room for 4 or a suite I’m more likely to just go with the former. However, maybe reaching out to the latter wouldn’t be that much additional effort.

Mine took about two weeks (came back yesterday), as I had a stay coming up I phoned customer service who were able to upgrade the status instantly.
We stopped at the Radisson Collection Warsaw and were upgraded to an Executive Room with Lounge Access, the best non-suite room (Soup at lunch time, pasta in the evening and alcohol between 6 and 8pm), we also got some Vodka and a cake in the room. We had booked a Collection Premium Room (Collection Room not available when we booked).
Does anyone know if checking in in advance online affects the upgrade offer? Am staying at Westminster bridge over the weekend and am balancing convenience with not getting the upgrade..

Hi, can’t say if the promotion is still going but a month ago it took a few weeks to get a response. I’ve read they stated “up to 14 days to answer”.
I sent a request on Jan 25 and received a reply only on Feb 10 with approval and change to vip.

Stayed at Radisson Blu Edwardian at heathrow
1- VIP status not mentioned or recognised by checin staff
2- Room upgrade; from standard double to “Deluxe Double”. Room was dated and only had plugs on one side of bed
3- Breakfast was included at the time of booking. Breakfast was boring and tasteless even though staff were lovely and chattyStayed at Radisson Blu Edwardian at heathrow

Hotel: Park Plaza Westminster Bridge
Room Booked: Standard room
Upgraded? To junior suite
Lounge Access: yes, stunning location – was serving afternoon tea when I visited in the afternoon and breakfast when I visited in the morning.
Welcome gift: None
Overall rating for price: A junior suite with breakfast and lounge access in central London for £150 – a bargain I would say.
Breakfast: I had breakfast in the dining room and then the lounge – because I could!Any experiences with the Radisson Blu Edinburgh?

I was just there 2 weeks ago for a long weekend, booked basic and received a free upgrade to premium room with a nice view of the Royal Mile and Arthur’s Seat – best non-suite room available at the property) – also got cupcakes and yummy things in the room as a welcome gift.
Free breakfast for my GF and I – it was one of the best hotel brekkies I’ve had in a long time. Morning service was top notch.
On my last morning I asked for late check-out, was given a ‘slightly reluctant’ 1400 latest possible check-out time which was fine but I feel that this should’ve been offered upon check-in by the system recognising me as VIP rather than me chasing it afterwards and having to ‘invoke’ my right to it as VIP member – offering it at check-in would even allow the hotel better planning – but that’s ok, it was given and it was the only very minor hiccup in an otherwise excellent stay.
Very happy with the service and the benefits of this upgrade, not sure if all Radisson Blu properties are this good, but will be staying at Radisson hotels whenever possible if this level is kept up.
Hotel: Radisson Blu Resort, Malta (St.Julian’s)
Room Booked: Superior King Room
Upgraded? Yes : 2 bedroomed SV suite on top floor
Lounge Access: No lounge
Welcome gift: Fruit platter in room with bottle of red wine. Complimentary bottled water daily.
Service: excellent.
Breakfast: good.
Comments: Nice hotel with good facilities. 10-15 mins walk (hilly) to restaurants & bars though plenty of Bolt/Ubers on hand if you don’t want to walk. Nearby construction of new hotel/complex though this did not affect our stay.
Would we stay again? Yes.
