Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Quick and instant Avios

In the process of booking some open-jaw flights at 135,000 avios + tax using my companion voucher but my miscalculation means that I am 15,000 avios short. Really hoping to book it this week as there are only 2 business seats left and its in a couple of months! Any way to get instant avios quickly without paying over the odds of 1p per avios? I’ve already boosted to the max and done the surveys.

Those seats could have gone by now!

Sometimes the only way, if you need them PDQ, after you’ve transferred your necter points and boosted everything you can is to buy them.

    I know, very stressful!
I’ve browsed high and low for solutions and thought I’d try HfP before giving up and buying at 2p

You could always use a different Avios+Cash mix… reduces the value of the 241 but might end up more can efficient?

Tried to discuss this over the phone and the top up for the extra 22,000 avios to bridge the gap (I can get 7k from boosting) was £380! Makes it not so efficient.

That sounds like a lot. What is the price online?

I must say I was slightly disappointed to discover your thread title was a request and not an offer!

Apologies for the unintentional click bait!
Are the online avios/cash combos different to ones quoted over the phone?! This would change the calculations but may still be difficult as we are trying to book open-jaw

They shouldn’t be, but agents have been rather hit and miss with all sorts of pricing lately. What route is it? The cash element sometimes feels chunky on a 241 booking because you’re paying 2 lots of fees but only 1 lot of avios.

The route is LHR/MEX (100k avios + £237.50) and then CUN/LGW (35k avios +£75) per person but halved due to CV

Do you have to do the MEX leg on a peak date?

Yes both are peak and non negotiable due to work schedules unfortunately!

That’s a shame as you could have saved 15k avios! Have you done dummy bookings on each sector individually to see what all the options are?

What does dummy bookings mean and how would I do this? Do you mean to see how much it would cost to make up the missing avios for each flight?

Start the booking and go as far as the list of avios/cash options. You’ll have to do each leg separately as it’s open jaw, but you will be able to see if the agent was quoting correctly and if there’s an option you can make work for you.

I see – I did do this and my numbers don’t add up to what the agent was quoting us for the top up fee! Hence I thought the numbers on their side would be more accurate. You’d think it’s as simple as reading the numbers out so it wouldn’t be too difficult

It’s always worth calling again as another agent might well tell you something different! Tell them the prices you are seeing then see what happens when they price it up as a return.
