Hopefully not a niche question but we hope if anyone can share their experiences / thoughts between QR QSuite (DOH – NRT, 10 hours night flight, arriving 6pm) or JL Apex (LHR – HND, 13.5 hours day flight, arriving 8am).

Understood that we also need to get from EDI-DOH but it is an afternoon flight of less than 7 hrs so it is okay if the little one does not sleep much but we hope to get more rest on the 2nd leg hence this question. We are also thinking Qsuite can turn into a “double bed” which hopefully help with the space with little one in the middle.

I only tried Qsuites once solo-travelling it was nice and private but I had better sleep on its QR B787/A380 seat.

    Many thanks.

A lot depends on the kid. I have two, one of which has put me off flying for life and there is no way on earth I’d take him on a day flight that long, the other I’d happily pack up lots of bits and pieces and snacks and take her and we’d have a lovely day together.

So personally if I had to do this trip I’d go QR and do a stopover there and go to a hotel and refresh before leg 2. The double bed space does work well in creating a little “den” for them to have a bit of space to sleep/play

What’s Apex, you mean SkySuite? I flew in LHR-HND and HND-BKK in June. IMO in-flight dining and service on JAL is noticeably better than on QR. However, Qatar has better lounges if not overcrowded, and most wod say Qsuite is better than SkySuite but given sour comments you’ll probably call it a draw between SkySuite and your favoured QR seats. IFE on Qatar is significantly better than on JAL. Qatar has aircraft I prefer (a350 and a3) but less likely to be substituted on JAL. Get downgraded in JAL you will likely find yourself in PY but if it happens on QR you’ll be in Y. I cannot help with advice regarding toddler sorry.

SkySuite is an Apex seat. I prefer JAL over Qatar anytime. I don’t rate QR highly because of inconsistent service and really uninspiring food. I also don’t like any of the window Qsuites as that huge box by the doors or the window goes on my nerves.

As a family you’ll probably want to book one of the middle duo suite on QR as you can create almost double bed experience and these are better than JAL suites.

    Also JAL very rarely downgrades.

Thanks everyone. Little one has been on multiple short and long haul flights since 5 months old. Only one of them where he did not sleep the whole flight which was earlier this month beside that he is fine. But I get the hint that he become distracted by people and surrounding as he grows older. So this next long haul will be challenging I think.

He has done the EDI-DOH-BKK legs before and was fine so that’s why leans toward the QR option as it gives him (and us) a bit of a break. Personally I would like to try JAL as heard lots of good things about them. And also if anything happens with JAL we are in LHR and ticketed through BA, so we have a bit more options compared to QR ground service where I read is non-existence.

    Hi all!

Aa slightly off-tooic, but connected question.

How do you go about securing a sleeping baby on a lie flat seat? We are taking Oman air to BKK red-eyes with a 14mo dude. Is there a special seatbelt option?
I was thinking if there is a possibilty to combine a few of the lap child seatbelt extenders and the attach this to the bed seatbelt…? At least he wont hit the ceiling in the very unlikely unexpected turbulence….

So we will have the 787-9 superlong (230cm) window Apex bed where the baby will sleep on the closed end of the pod and one of us near the aisle pathway.

    Thanks!
