Not sure if I’m doing something wrong.
Can’t find any availability (or availability that doesn’t have a ‘Q2’ double cost) in premium cabins from London or Manchester to a number of SEA destinations (KUL, SIN, BKK, and even CGK) next summer.
Checked most dates between July 29th and August 22nd (latest available date right now) for one ways.
Many of the economy seats also have a Q2 double cost.
This can’t be right, especially for CGK? (Jakarta can’t be that popular surely?).
So, am I doing it wrong, or are QR genuinely out of all award seats and feel compelled to gouge the price on the remaining premium cabin seats by doubling their cost?
Checking from AMS or CDG shows lots of availability, but all are marked with the Q2 double fare tag.
So it seems they aren’t sold out of award seats, but are instead choosing to charge double. I think.
I was recently looking for flights to the SE with Qatar too (trying to do a BA multi carrier redemption), it is very weird. For example I couldn’t find any avios seats in business between Madrid and Doha or between Doha and KL, however it was showing reward flights from Madrid to KL (same flights).

That’s “married segment” availability. The airline doesn’t want to cannibalise it’s premium to/from Doha market, but is happy to fill seats which through-connect on quieter flights/cabins using Avios. Bit of an issue if you like to search by segment, which is typically what I do…
I have a feeling that QR tends to release standard award redemptions later, probably even six months before the flight. I haven’t done proper research on it, just a few searches that point to that.

What’s Q2 double fare? I was looking at the best way to get to SEZ from MAN and there seemed to be plenty of award availability from DOH to SEZ – cash prices were really high, around £800 return in economy!

Except, IMO it looks like all reward seats in premium cabins (flying to asia) late July onwards are priced this way.
I did some random checks for earlier in the year and there are some ‘normal’ priced reward seats available.
This fits with Meta’s feelings above.
So perhaps I just need to sit tight for a few months and hope they’ll drop the Q2 avios pricing to regular avios pricing.

Yes, the “married segment” availability seems to apply both to availability of redemption seats and fares on paid tickets. While looking a flights to Australia I could see different paid business class fare bucket availability on each individual segment vs looking at the flights as a connection and it varies by the selected origin. It was the same for redemption seats where flights that showed the x2 prices were available for 1x redemption in different route combinations; from UK it seems very difficult to find 1x on the LHR-DOH sector. It takes a lot of trial and error to get good fares or redemptions, but they are there.
It’s funny that with BA often you need to do the opposite to find avios seats – search by segment. So eg Rome to London and then London to Edinburgh as it won’t find anything if you search Rome-Edinburgh even if the seats are there and even of there’s a published fare.
It sounds like if QR publishes a cash fare between your origin and destination then you have a much better chance of finding it if you search as such, than if you do the same on the BA site

The problem might also arise when booking through a OW partner that they will search by segment and be unable to find/book your redemption.
Could someone who has QPC be so kind to check for reward flight availability on Bangkok Airways? One way, SIN- USM (direct), any cabin, on either 2 or 3 Aug 23? If available, what are the avios required and number of seats available on these two date? TIA.

It’s free to sign up for QPC @Gary, and I’m not sure Qatar has live availability for Bangkok Airways. The Avios required are 15,000 one-way in economy.
