Does anyone know how I can change the name on my Qatar Privilege account (it only has an initial for my first name)?

I can’t link the two accounts as my BA Exec Club has my full first name, whereas the Qatar profile only has the first initial.

Have a similar issue due to a Scandinavian letter in my surname translated to oe in BAEC account but only o on the Qatar Privilege account. Sent a request to change this on March 31st. Not heard anything yet. Sent a reminder earlier this week. No response on this either. Assume I will have to pick up the phone at some point.

I submitted a help request online regarding this, and they required me to upload and send them my passport copy in order to action the name change. Wasn’t comfortable doing so and simply closed the newly-created Qatar account and signed up again with the correct name.

I had a similar issue with the apostrophe in my surname, they eventually replied to my query after a couple of weeks and told me it was a limitation in their system and to ask BA to change the name on their side, which I won’t be doing. the 2,500 points will just need to stay on the Qatar account.

Under the Uk data protection act you have a right to insist a company’s database is corrected of any errors once notified by the data subject of the error. What in earth will Qatar do if a bunch of customers with surnames their DBAs/site programmers failed to anticipate start demanding their names are correctly spelled? Hyphens, dashes, accents and apostrophes are hardly unheard of in names in Europe. Failing to spell a name correctly is a manifest error.

OH is having problems with this. He is Portuguese so he has 2 “first names” and 2 “surnames” without hyphens. Not unheard of, especially given it is also relevant to the biggest country in South America.

We cannot merge his accounts, and the chat bot is being extremely difficult. Anyone have any tips? Don’t want to send a passport, but we’re keen to transfer some avios across so we can book some Virgin Australia flights.

As an aside, due to his elongated name he has multiple entries with different versions of his name (I.e. some with spaces some without) on his BA exec account. The same has happened on my BA log in for him as a travelling partner. He always has to recomplete his information every time he checks in. What a nightmare.
